Hi Ancient,

You mean the website user comments have been heavily spammed, right? Not the Forum.

De-spamming the user comments is part of my remit. I usually do it twice per week: once at the weekend and then mid-week. Someone spammed the site on Monday and Tuesday night - for hours. I cleaned it up last night so it should be okay today. Unfortunately, unlike the Forum, I can't ban users based on their IP address or on key words (like freaking Ugg boots!).

Anyway, if ever you're on the website and the spamming commences, PM me and I can start cleaning up that little bit sooner...

Yeah thats right Liz. I know its a bit of an uncontrollable problem but it just annoys me that these idiots think that I would EVER be interested in their rubbish.

Spam Update:

Although we can't block these spammers, some tools have been put in place so that we can disable their accounts (which forces them to re-register). And we can now delete ALL COMMENTS in one foul swoop. It won't stop them, but it makes it quicker and easier to get their rubbish off the site.

Also - the whole Digital Team are clearing User Comments every day and then I'll be going on as normal during the evenings and at weekends and clearing it. Ancient - if you're commenting regularly on the website, can you give me shout as to how you think the clean-up is going?

the spams are ruining the feedback.... no one is writing anything anymore! There are two identical ones on the Scarlet Johansson page already... people just aren't bothering to write anything anymore...

We're really sorry, DanRose. Since the relaunch, the spamming has gone bananas. It's all hands to the pump at the moment, in terms of cleaning their dross from the website. Every single person on the Digital team is on spam cleaning duties.

Whilst we fight this battle, you can start threads on the Forum on anything you want to discuss from the website...

The new site looks horrible, I have recently been enjoying visiting Total Film.com a lot more regularly but since the update the home page just puts me off...

It's cold and uninviting, not everything has to look like Facebook.

As you say Liz Ive posted virtually every day this week and the work you are doing does seem to be having an effect. I was noticing it more when I was on night shift as most spammers seem to hit in the early hours. Im back on nights at the end of this week so I will keep an eye on activity.
On the whole though it does seem to be having a positive effect .So from me and all the rest of the forum Thank You and keep up the good work.

Cheers, Ancient. Although I've got to say, Jonesy and Kiba do the bulk of the de-spamming on the Forum, and this week, the digital team have been de-spamming the User Comments like crazy! We'll beat those bastards!!!

They may take our lives, but they'll never take our FORUM

Or something to that effect

Just a small point. The clock on the forum is an hour fast.
