Most recently for me was "No Country For Old Men". I actually was dozing off in the cinema. Now that I think about it though most Cohen Brothers movies required a second viewing from me before I really appreciated them....

I agree that Zodiac let me down at the cinema, though after my first repeat viewing loved it and now rate it as Fincher' (almost) best, second only to Se7en.

I (like many others) felt let down by The Blair Witch when I saw it at the cinema but have since been scared out of my wits by it on many an occasion since.

I tend to find that if I go to see a film with a strong preconception of what its going to be then I am more likely to feel let down than if I see it with a fresh perspective.

There are still movies that I havnt enjoyed that I am sure i'll fall in love with on a second viewing that i am yet to return to. Brazil for one, and most recently Monsters.

Same here, although, obviously I'd never pay to see a Cruise film, but having caught WotW on TV and thought, well, I 'll just watch the destruction, I got caught up and ended up really enjoying it.

I loved War of the Worlds too, very gritty and uncompromising in it's portrayal of Alien led genocide, the tripods were awesome and had great noises. Palpable sense of fear all the way through and the scene with Tim Robins was class.

But..

Tom Cruise's son in the film is an absolute selfish gimp, in the classic Harry Enfield 'Kevin the Teenager' mould, all whiny, emo and 'rebellious'. This would have been resolved brilliantly at the point where Cruise has to choose between his two children, but no. Spielberg being Spielberg can't resist the syrup ending and the teenage snot turns up looking all smug at his Mum's house at the end.

Not only does he inexplicably survive an extra terrestrial fire-storm, but then beats his father to the destination on his own. Completely robbing the film of any emotional impact and rendering Cruise's herculean efforts redundant. Imagine an ending where a tearful cruise delivered one child and was forced to explain the death of another, with a silent tearful shake of the head, it could have been great.

Now it's just infuriating.

Sorry I ranted

I agree, his son was an annoying little toad and should have died a horrible death.

I too didn't think much of this film at first but have enjoyed it much more on the 2nd showing. The special effects and sound effects are great.

One problem: His daughter is Dakota Fanning who is also an annoying little cow. You say the son is whiny? He is, but her squalling shrieking voice could strip paint off the car. Cruise should've done a runner and abandoned both little bastards.

Then jumped in front of a bus. I can't help but let Tom Cruise's freaky, smarmy personal life make me hate him in films.

I like the guy.

A controversial opinion im sure, but i think his movie choices - although sometimes cheesy (ok, very cheesy) - are always entertaining. Hats off for the Les Grossman thing also.

Oh god Les Grossman!! Genius! see what they did there..?

I haven't even seen the film and I'm sick of hearing about how 'game' he was.
