I still don't know what to say about that movie. I really liked Philip Ridley's "Reflecting Skin"... So lyrical... So i was looking forward to "Heartless". And the taste that left me was bitter-sweet. I mean there are times that you feel the "horror"... But the best thing about that movie is the athmosphere. Dark and nightmarish. The photography was great and the dark alleys of North London is the perfect scenery.
But except that, everything else kept reminded me of something else... The main character figths with (his) demons, like Machbeth. He creates an alter ego, like in "Fight Club" and he answears no to Jean Paul Sartre and his saying that "Hell is other people". But what counts is the mood. It's great. And that's what you "carry" after finishing watching the movie... p.s. Jeffbiscuits i hope you enjoyed Demons :-D

I thought Heartless was alright. Not great but watchable. It really felt like a Clive Barker film, from the London setting to the look of the hoodie demons, everything was an inferior imitation of Barker's world.
Demons and Demons 2 are the two films I could watch again and again if there's nothing else on I want to watch ![]()

As you said it. Allright and watchable. But i think that from a point after the director totally lost it. There were great scenes (the first time i saw the demons i was ah!!!) but then, i don't know... Papa B reminded me a lot of De Niro at Angel Heart... If there was an egg included, you'd have the whole package.
I really like Demons but i think that the movie i can see over and over is "The excorsist"... Soooo many times! :-D

I'm also a big Exorcist fan but recently I've been going back to Exorcist 3 more than the first one. The bit in the hospital is one of the best scenes I've ever seen in a film. Really heartstopping stuff

'Gone Baby Gone'
As I continue my Ed Harris retrospective I couldn't help but re-watch this beautiful little film, thrilling, gritty and with some cracking dialogue. Gets better with every watch and to think I though Casey Affleck couldn't act worth a damn in 'Good Will Hunting'. 5/5

Limitless
Pretty good film, good story and Brad Cooper out acts Bobby DeNiro. |

OT: The Invention of Lying: I came very close to turning this off 3 minutes into the movie as they seemed to have confused saying whatever comes into your head with not being deceitful. However, I stuck it out and was glad I did, it threw up some interesting questions and was certainly different to the usual ''what if...' movies. The part in the hospital with his mum was genuinely moving. And whoever imagined Barry from Eastenders would be in the same film as Philip Seymour Hoffman. It certainly displayed how the British Comedy scene has been amalgamated into the US Hollywood machine. |

The Fighter
Very good film, Bale is superb as the crack head brother and deserved more praise than he got, but there is a Bale hating element out there. Aronofsky, take note this is how you make a film about a fighting man. |

He got an Oscar! Isn't that enough praise? For me the fighter wasn't as good as the Wrestler. It was well acted but predictable and rather formulaic.
