As with any film with fighting in it, the robot wars are the best bit. Its kid friendly, so this means an annoying child actor. Groan. I tried to zone him out and concentrate on Hugh Jackman's biceps instead.

The robot reminded me very much of a cross between The Iron Giant's childlike innocence and I, Robot's super robot but no clue what was going on.

King Kong (Bluray)

Looks stunning, if a little, just a little, like you can see the joins but still an impressive achievement. Obviously I skipped the film up until they set sail for the island, cus I was watching with Tom, it's a three hour film and to put it bluntly, f@ck that. I don't have the patience for all the shite at the beginning, so Tom certainly wouldn't. Character development, my arse.

Stakeland

More of a road movie but with vampires, reminded me of the film The Road, which isn't a bad thing as I really like that film. I enjoyed this, the acting was pretty good considering they are not well known actors (apart from Kelly McGillis) and there was a fair bit of tension going on at times. This was a blind buy and I'm glad I bought it.

I really liked it. It's really downbeat and doesn't make too much of a spectacle of itself, effects-wise. There's a couple of really good performances too which surprised me.

Somewhere amongst all the running and confusion, there is a great film struggling to break out here.

But if you've seen the trailer, it's about all there is, a confusing end after a very good start, then some boring stuff, then it got interesting again, and then it sort of got way way too confusing to follow.

There is one really heart wrenching scene in it though that made my eyes water ever so slightly.

See this if you liked Fight Club, as it's the same objective, just with freaky stuff going on.

And yes, the cars are way cool

V for Vendetta

From the first monologue to the final firework, a great film. A well-told tale of the awakening of a nation against a totalitarian government prompted by the eponymous V. Top notch graphic novel, too.

Hugo Weaving's V is played with the right amount of theatricality and Natalie Portman's Evey holds your attention when on screen, going from scared and vulnerable to confident and strong. Chief of Police Finch (Stephen Rea) is forced, in the course of his investigations, to change from party man to, if not active participant, then, someone willing to allow the neccessary to happen.

Would have got a slightly higher score if Natalie Portman's accent had held up properly.

Finally got around to watching this and I loved it. I know that on the surface it is very similar to Rocky (and any other boxing film) but it was held up by great performances and a great family angle to the story.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how funny parts of it where!

It got very interesting in the 3rd quarter of the film, but by the end I felt cheated.

Ray was very menacing.
Colin was great.
But the bloke from Harry Potter seriously stole the film from everyone.

The female actresses (all of them) on the other hand, were very shallow and not deserving of the efforts of the main players attentions.

For what could have been a fantastic film, I felt I'd wasted my Saturday evening.
