Default Nowhere boy

Is it weird that a film about the earlier days and affected childhood of John Lennon and the Beatles really reminded me of the Krays movie? It wasn't a bad film. Aaron Johnson was decent in the main role and the wee guy from Love Actually was not bad as a young McCartney. When are we getting a Proclaimers biopic? 2.5/5

Default Sweeney Todd

This film looks great and first impressions are that it's heartfelt and emotive. After fifteen minutes it's just another Burton film though. All style and very little substance. Depp's mediocre Bowie impression grates and the only saving graces are Alan Rickman and HBC. She repeatedly plays the same part in any film but as typecasts go, she's onto a good one guvnor. 2\5

Colin was great.
But the bloke from Harry Potter seriously stole the film from everyone.

The female actresses (all of them) on the other hand, were very shallow and not deserving of the efforts of the main players attentions.

For what could have been a fantastic film, I felt I'd wasted my Saturday evening.

2 out of 5.
I watched it on Saturday too, I felt it was very disjointed. I didn't have a clue why they needed the bloke that previously lived in the flat?

Ray was good
Colin was really good apart from his dodgy cockney accent.
Keira was just Keira, all chin and no tits.

I'd give it 2 out of 5 too dojj

Default The Ides of March

Saw it last night. I'm beginning to see what the fuss is about Ryan Gosling now - excellent performance by him as Stephen. Did have to keep up with what's going on, which is no bad thing by any means, and there were some parts which should have had a bit more "oomph" behind them than they did, but otherwise a very good, gripping film.

4/5

4/5
Really different from all the other films of Almodovar. And really, really good, unlike his previous film "Broken embraces" (which was one of his worse). Twisted and sick (in a good way) keeps your interest all the way through. It was good to see that Antonio Banderas is still an actor... for the last years i thought he was just Melanie Griffith's husband... But he still got it. The movie is like a puzzle and by connecting the pieces you get to your destination. A creepy one, but great.

Watched the 2007 horror Joshua earlier. Didn't really do anything for me. The kid barely did anything evil or whatever, which I thought was the point.
Gonna watch Sucker Punch later to see just how bad it really is.

If anything, Keira's chin did more acting that Keira did. Although not entierly her fault i suspect, the character seemed to be written as very one dimensional and distraught, but having recently watched Top Boy, the mother made a much better depressed woman than young Miss Knightly ever did, she should take note.

And possibly resort to surgery to fix her underbite or she will be playing Les Dawson in her later years.

Default Lars And The Real Girl

I've just had the pleasure of this charming film (thank you morris). Not at all what I expected, this is sweet and funny and sad and hopeful all at once. Ryan Gosling is again outstanding, this time with a beautifully understated performance which plumbs the depths of pain, loss and yearning. The supporting cast were all terrific too, particularly Emily Mortimer as the desperate to help sister-in-law. I was swept up in the relationship with 'Bianca' much like the townsfolk who rally to accommodate Lars and his unusual partner. Quirky... certainly. Heartwarming... absolutely!
