My kids are 4 and 6 I'm torn between getting them a Wii or the Kinnect. Personally I'd rather not buy another console but I just can't see Kinnect living up to it's promise.

I'm really interested to see how Kinnect actually performs in a normal home enviroment. I know some people who have had a demo and loved it but these where in a (very) controlled enviroment.

I voted "Wait and See".

Has anyone tried it yet? I haven't read any reviews yet but the adverts look so cheesey. Playstation move had a lower key release which I don't know about either. Any views on what's best out of Kinect, Move and Wii?

Default one word awesome!

i've had it a few days now and i have to say its one of the best gaming products i've ever played on over the last 20 years! kinect adventures is a great free bit of free software that helps you get to grips with the motion sensor device - and works really well, 1000 leaks and the rollercoaster game being my favourites! The other stand out games so far are kinect sports, dance central and your shape fitness.
I'm really supprised how accurate kinect is- try out table tennis on kinect sports- with a flick of the wrist you can add back spin, swerve and all manner of different shots.
My advice is if you have the space to move ( a good 6-8 feet) go out and buy it- it really is one of the best motion sensor device out there- and being a wii owner i can honestly say that it has much more control than what you have with the wii remote.

Plus you can scroll through the menu bars with a flick of the wrist or voice recognition, also includes face identity -tracks up to 6 faces and live online chat through the device itself so no need of the stupid head sets anymore!

All this motion sensor stuff is a bit of a flash in the pan novelty isn't it? It's all a bit unwieldy, Nintendo sold so many Wiis because fat people think waving a controller around will make them less fat, Wii fit? Seriously, go outside and climb a tree.

I don't see the appeal of jumping around like a loon for some poor superficial gaming experience, if I'm playing a game, on the rare occasion I get some free time, I fully intend to sink into a bean bag, furrow my brow and wonder why the hell I still haven't finished the original 'Gears of War'.

It's a bit like 3D in the movies, I'm tired of it and I'm hoping it will disappear with little fanfare.

All that being said, for someone who is essentially a gamer of the 90's missing Sensible Soccer and what not. I'm thinking of getting a PS3 slim as I don't own a Blue ray yet, but then I don't own an HD tv either.

I'm so 2001 a fail odyssey

Default to Porkchopexpress

Porkchopexpress- i think the wii sold mainly because of the classic gaming experience and party games available for it, the wii fit didnt come out untill a couple of years after the console was released! plus climbing a tree isn't exactly known as exercise and is more dangerous than waving a wii remote around.

The kinect isn't and will not be for everyone- especially if you enjoy sitting on your backside while playing games. Its merely a different way of playing computer games and interacting with the console by getting rid of the controller altogether.

I have to agree with you on the matter of 3D though, i for one dont see the point in it and think it should have stayed in the 80's - the price of watching a movie at cinema is too expensive as it is never mind adding a few quid on extra to watch it in 3d!

I'd advise you to invest into a upscaling dvd player instead of a bluray player- unless your using the ps3 as a gaming console. I have a hd tv and dvd upscaller (on my dvd player) and recently bought a blu ray player to see what all the fuss is about and couldn't tell the difference except the slow loading times of the blu ray disks! bought the alice in wonderland blu ray + dvd set and the quality was no different to dvd!

Having said that the ps3 is a great bit of kit - had one last year, and a bargain to say you get blu ray included!

!

Ah, I wasn't really advocating tree climbing, just being a bit silly. But it was more an exaggerated point about people I've met who seem to think Wii fit is an acceptable substitute for exercise.

But I am something of a fitness nut, so it's horses for courses isn't it? I suppose it's better than nothing for some folks.

I guess I'm just not that much of an experimental gamer and shun the new, people fear change! I've had a few cracks at the odd Wii game and while I agree the party element must be a major draw, I was so utterly hopeless with one I just dismissed it as a fad.

I'm a simple gamer really, I believe the term is 'face roller' I just run my face over a control pad or keyboard, but whenever I play a game on a console my character usually just ends up running around in circles naked.

It's a gift and a curse.

I always fancied one, and the push for me was when I had my 3 year old nephew to stay over the fist time a few weeks ago, and I bought it second-hand on Ebay.

The first time I tired it with him, he didn't like it, mainly waiting for it to scan him. Then a few weeks later, tried again and he loved it.

I am considering getting the UFC Trainer, as I read the reviews and it's not for "beginners" like Your Shape which i have.

Default Yes worth it!

Yeah had one over a year now and it's great fun, Gunstringer is a good game but IMO you need to get Kinect sports and if anyone likes dancing in the family dance central1/2, there just starting to bering out the next batch of games eg Kinect sports2 which use voice recognition- which is very cool, definately worth it! It's a great bit of kit and once the next Xbox update is launched u can use Kinect more to navigate menus!
