Default Devil

Big surprise:

This is actually pretty watchable.

Seriously, not bad at all. Gets a bit daft in places, the whole 'Devil' business being stupid at times, but the film is tight, lean and doesn't piss about. We're talking 80 minutes here, so even if you're not enjoying it'll mercilessly cut you a break there. And it's quite suspensful too, at least up against absolute dross like The Last Exorcism.

I partially think this is due to Shyamalan only being on board as Producer and writer of the story, with different credits going towards Screenplay and Direction. The guy's ideas are usually pretty sound, it's when he has to introduce characters, narrative and actually make the bloody thing that it falls to pieces, so here a decent premise is handed over to someone else, and it kinda works. That it's also set in one building also helps keeps things flowing, it doesn't get out of hand like Shyamalan's more recent 'End of the world' films, instead it feels more like a neat little diversion. It would've been better as a short film than a full feature though.

So yeah, watchable but nothing special. Guess it seems like more because it's a surprise to associate the word watchable with the name Shyamalan, but I liked it, better than some other crap being farted out.

Default Fantastic Devil!

Just went to see Devil andI thought it was very good. Its a very quick little horror with ample performances through out.Shyamalan deserves credit his story is the films strenght and even though he didnt direct, it has all his GOOD traits.it wont win any awards but its fast paced, well directed and is at times edge of your seat entertainment! I now look forward to the rest of the Nightchronicles films.

Quite enjoyable, and they pack a lot into the short running time. Kept me engaged and guessing all the way through.

Hi dex,

The mag guys work about 6-8 weeks ahead of the on sale date. The film companies usually lay on special screenings for the journalists so that they can review them. Sometimes they don't. Looks like it was the latter for Devil.

M. Night Shyamalan's previous works disappointed, I'm glad to see that this one seems to have promise.

Cool My Opinion

I thought this was a good interesting movie when I first watched it... thats the thing it keeps you watching and guessing who the Devil is, and the conclusion is unexpected too.

In addititon, they are in a lift the entire movie- making a film out of just that one space is a challenge but the director, John Dowdle did a good job with it.

I think its a movie that won't dissapoint!
