Damn I watched The Thing last night, then the documentary on the disc, saw there was a commentary but couldn't be bothered to listen to it (had other stuff I wanted to move on and watch.)

So going to put it back in the player and give it a listen toot sweet.

P.S. I know this post isn't about a DVD commentary but VHS.
The Usual Suspects was the first commentary I watched and, like you said, may well have been the first. It was back when DVD's were brand new and I got the region 1 off t'internet.

Its not often these days that i'll take the time out to view a commentary. Though recently I really enjoyed the Alfredson/Lindqvist commentary on Let The Right One In and would recomend it to anyone who is also a fan of the book.

Yeah I second that, the Let The Right One In commentary is a good one.

I enjoyed the Bruce Campbell as the King commentary on Bubba Ho-Tep, he does the entire commentary in character. Good stuff.

Now you tell me. My Bubba Ho Tep is region1 and I recently got rid of my multiregion player. I can imagine it to be a hoot though.

- The Wes Craven commentary on Scream
- The cast and crew commentaries on the original releases of the Roger Moore starring James Bond DVDs (I don't know if these are included on the revamped 2 disc versions of the films)
- The cast commentary on the first series of Phoenix Nights

I do like me a bit of Michael Mann, 'Heat' is one of my all time favourite films and 'Collateral' is ace, Mann is a great story teller, visceral action and dynamic set pieces amongst great characterisation.

But I came to the sad conclusion while listening to his commentary on 'Collateral' that Michael Mann is in fact, boring as fuck and a total Tom Cruise sycophant.

Exciting film maker? Yes? Personality of a sponge? Yes....

Hard Core Logo.
Hugh Dillon is hilarious, especially when he's rattling poor Noel Baker (the movie's screenwriter).
