You're talking to people who have watched films like Irreversible which offer far more disturbing and graphic rapes than Dragon Tattoo. In other words you're warning the jaded, world weary and impassive.

This is basically a Hollywood mainstream film, so how much more graphic is the rape scene than the Swedish version? ..which I assume most here have already seen?

Just because you and I have watched worse or don't mind watching anything, it doesn't mean that everyone else has or doesn't mind.

Yes, most of the people here are long time film fans who have seen it all a couple of times over but the website is open to all comers.

I have heard of people who simply refuse to watch anything involving animal cruelty, rape or other sensitive topics.

Assuming that everyone has seen the Swedish version is ridiculous. There are many who hate watching anything with subtitles. Some of them are -shock, horror- Total Film readers.

Calm down dear, it's just a review.
I said most here, if you read my post. Not everyone. I know my guess about that is just a guess, so I said 'I assume'. I'm making an assumption about the people here and their viewing habits or tastes, just as you are.

Of course some people are sensitive to certain things. That's what the ratings are for, to warn them they may encounter things that upset them.

You never answered my question: Is the rape scene in this film more graphic in your opinion than the Swedish version, or is that one of those details that you forgot since you watched it so long ago? Never mind. Having been forewarned about this scene I am now completely prepared and will watch it myself. Cheers.

I have no seen either and I doubt if the rape scene is any worse than rape scenes in other films.

One film I will not watch is A Serbian Film, from what I have heard it will just disgust me. I overheard a man and his son looking for this film in the HMV and straight away I looked on them like they were a couple of peado's, even though I have never seen it.

Rape scene in Eng-lang "GWTDT" is pretty bad for a mainstream feature; however, the Swedish-lang one is probably worse due to the aftermath (*SPOILER* Rapace limping home and trying to light a cigarette with shaky hands. IMO that was pretty powerful *END SPOILER*).

I'm with you on A Serbian Film; I looked up the full plot and, ugh. Just couldn't.

Serbian Film is pretty extreme but it's also very silly.

Worth watching for a very effective first half but after the 'newborn porn' scene it just goes OTT and loses it way.

Just back from seeing the girl with the dragon tattoo. I enjoyed it a lot. Not as much as the original but enjoyed it.
Daniel Craig done a good job and the star for me Rooney Mara was great as Lisbeth Salander but Noomi Rapace will always be the better Lisbeth. I feel a rant coming on but I'll stick it in the rant thread. So people really were put on this earth to annoy me.
Its up there with Finchers best work

Default the girl with the dragon tattoo

Having watched the original film, i thought i should watch the american as well... It was good, but not as good as the original one.
Maybe it is because I've combinen certain characters with certain actors, but i felt like something was missing. I think that maybe if there wasn't the first Swedish movie the artistic project of David Fincher would get more value. It felt like it had no view other than the aesthetic management. The best thing of the movie was the stunning transformation of Rooney Mara.
But if you like action and intrigue with many different characters then it's a really good film. I think the film lacks suspense and an unexpected climax...
