The passion for football usually comes from a love for a club or, well, your own country. Kinda hard to get that sort of emotion going in a film with less than *Premier* ahem talents. I would imagine if you plonked some serious talent on a footie film I'm sure it could be great.

i have just read the article on football films and was gobsmacked, i had only recently just sat my wife through the classic film that is escape to victory (there was no need for any explanation of the offside rule), aside from sly's acting the film is amazing, granted there are football films that are plain rubbish, but lay off caine and the boys, what about films like the longest yard or mean machine, relativley ok sports films, or is neil smith just upset that no film has been made around Fulham fc.

What about Mike Bassett - England Manager ? lots of digs at the F.A. (Some subtle, some not so), very well realised film, the scene where Bassett writes the name of his Squad on the back of a fag packet (resulting in two subs called Benson and Hedges !), is an absolute hoot !
