'Mysterious Skin' and 'Buffalo Soldiers' spring to mind, not sure if either got a cinematic release, but both are films I'm fond of.

Gordon-Levitt in typical mesmerising form in the first and a befuddled Ed Harris with a sprinkling of angry Scott Glenn in th second.
