Is it better, as a movie, than The Prestige? I loved that movie.
I think so, though others here may disagree. Inception is an epic film, bigger in every way than The Prestige and contains better performances. It does have some flaws, some say the character development is thin to non-existent but it's worth seeing for the spectacle of it and its sweeping soundtrack.

How did they make the music for Inception??
I don't know how Zimmer made it, but I remember reading that he was influenced by dreams and wanted to take a different approach to composing for Inception. He wanted to be given only an outline rather than specific details, relying on instinct and intuition. Strangely when he met with Nolan to work on it, it turned out that many of his ideas fitted with Nolan's for the themes of the film. I can't vouch for how accurate that is; I read it a while ago and can't remember the source.
Zimmer based it around the Édith Piaf song: “Non, je ne Regrette Rien”. http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/20...ception-score/
He also collaborated with Johnny Marr which I think is extra cool, Marr is a wonderful guitarist.

Default Movie background music

You know the sort, the stuff that's playing the background while some scene is being played out.

Question 1) How do you find out what that particular track is called?

Question B) And are their a multitude of films which uses the same music?

For example, they use the same "ping pong" steel drum background music in both 48 Hours and Commando, but I can't figure out what it's called.
And I'm sure that the music from Four Brothers (in the scene where they are driving along in the snow at the end of the film) is also in one of the Bourne films.

Is there a resident soundtrack expert who can help out?

Cheers.

I use Shazam on my phone to check out a soundtrack. God, it feels great living in the future.

Default Shane Black....

It's a question I always wanted to know the answer to about the legend that is Shane Black.

Just what the hell was he doing in Robocop 3?

If TF could put it to him in an interview then that would be great!
