The first time i saw it I quite enjoyed it. The majority of the film was really atmospheric, decently acted and creepy. I think the ridiculous twist at the end soured the rest of the film for me though. Any time i've tried to watch it since I end up turning off. The Happening is dire. I can't think of a good thing about it. Maybe the scene where the old woman is smashing through the windows was scary.
The Last Airbender is bad even for a cheesy, senseless kids film and Lady In The Water is worse than The Happening. He's had better luck as a producer over recent years. Devil had a daft premise but it was one of the better horror films of 2010.

Burton's films were always style of substance. His quirks have always overshadowed characterisation. In Big Fish all the emotional beats felt forced and artificial which took me right out of the film when in fact they were supposed to make me sympathise.

However, I think it’s unfair to compare him to Shyamalan.

M Knight lost the plot after Unbreakable. He started to believe his own hype as the “saviour of contemporary cinema”.

Burton might be singing the same song albeit with different notes, his vision at least appears to be steadfast.

After Earth sounded like a good idea though - until he cast the Smiths
