This is a bit belated, but happy days! The world has collectively dodged a bullet made of stupid.

So things are just as bad as they were - but let's face it, it's better having Obama be the world's most powerful man than the 'shambles and his party of dead-eyed misogynist goons. Republicans have been showing a particularly nasty side to themselves ever since he was elected, not least in the wake of this election (e.g. Trump). Not like the halcyon days of George Bush where they were just incompetent puppets.

Any thoughts? Or at least some more meme pics?

They were, although it was the Bush administration that allowed the bankers to run riot and removed all protections so that people could borrow on money they hadn't even made yet. His financial advisor was a key player in the decisions that led to the big crash. I agree with you though Snips, the better outcome was reached. He's got a monumental task ahead of him, probably even tougher than the first term.

Indeed. The only saving grace is that with no chance of re-election he might go more balls-out.

You're right about Bush - I dunno though, there just seems to be this (even more) sociopathic quality to them these days. Their veneer of naivety seems to have vanished, plus they're out of office yet still managing to wield more influence than the Dems, like there's no escaping them.

I know what you mean. These days the core of the Republican party is disturbing in how rigid, and frankly out of touch it is. You said misogynistic and nasty. Try prehistoric. These are comments regarding the issue 'no abortion, not even for rape or incest cases'

Political analysts have speculated that the Republican demographic is shrinking while the Democrat voters reflect the expanding demographic of America. The outpouring of vitriol and bitterness (and in social media like Twitter; noxious racism) has been astounding. You'd think Armageddon had come over there rather than a president getting a second term.

Speaking of George W, I've come to realise the Bush party did its best to appear "aw shucks" naive while being extremely canny. How do you shuffle a complete overhaul of personal liberties and privacy issues past the public? Put a clown in front and have everyone laugh at him. Stupid - yes, harmless - definitely not. Stirring hysteria over the war on terrorism was a bonus.

Correct. It will be a test of whether they do really want to see their country get ahead if they allow things to happen or block every economic policy move the Dem government tries to make, simply because they can. That's why I said Obama's got even more work cut out for him. He's basically got to work miracles if he's to make any progress at all.

As for memes, I've seen some excellent ones, but didn't save them because I didn't realise anyone here would be interested. Trump's tantrum was hilarious, truly classic.

Exclamation

Retweeted: One final gaff: 'President' Mitt Romney's victory site goes live

I agree with this comment

Arrogant to the end. Sad he and other Republicans do not see that they come off as insensitive elitists (not to mention rude bigots like Ann Coulter, Donald Trump, and the many radio hate-and-fear mongers) and more and more sensible people are turned off by their ignorance. There are only so many entitled rich folk and scared and angry white men out there and the market for their brand of smirking vitriol is shrinking every year.

Update: now with screen grabs of the victory site - thanks Liz

Love it!

Kiba, that pic is astounding, particularly 'they rape so easy'. Morris' quote does indeed sum it up, although I'd go further and say that their ignorance borders on self-delusion, or at least compulsive lying. The silver lining is that their barrage of idiocy might make even their own supporters see the extent to which they're denying reality.

The House of Reps Speaker has grudgingly conceded that the voters want Obama's ideas, and has said he'll start cooperating more, though he probably won't go very far its a start.

Anyway sorry if I'm over-injecting into this thread, just that these idiots are holding back the entire world's progress - I've begun to notice Cameron's starting to talk like them now, though maybe this was always the case. Plus I was living in San Fran during my absence, so I feel a certain attachment to US politics. That city's a pretty perfect example of what happens when you axe welfare - poverty, homelessness and mental illness all over the place.

A couple other highlights and then I'll give it a rest:

Karl Rove, of all people, throws tantrum over Fox calling results early

Nail receives sharp blow to the head

... And finally, another small victory, in my opinion at least:

Thank god so many of those idiots got their asses handed to them, as I read somewhere it was like the Reps forgot young single women could vote.
