What best sums up Paul Newman's greatness as an actor to me is the scene in Cool Hand Luke where he's told that his mother is dead. He sits on his bunk strumming his banjo and singing Plastic Jesus, and although his expression never changes he begins to cry.
One of the most heartbreaking moments in my filmgoing experience, and one which never fails to move me to tears.

Will be eternally missed.

I rate him No. 1 of all time.

Agreed, he was one of the most enduring and likeable stars as well as one of the biggest. They don't make them like him anymore.
