Default Home vs Cinema

I'm currently researching my dissertation and am hoping that some of you can help. Do you prefer watching films at home or at the cinema? If you could tell me the reasons why that would be even more helpful. Thanks!

Default help!! analyse a sequence and do a shot breakdown

Hi I have a very brutal assignment due this week in which i have to select a sequence from the choices provided and analyze in essay format TWO of the following three formal and stylistic aspects of film: sound, cinematography, editing. In addition to the essay, you will also produce a shot breakdown of the sequence. Shot breakdown is a detailed, shot-by-shot description of what happens in the sequence. You will number each shot and describe camera distance/shot scale/framing as well as any significant camera movement; you will describe noteworthy sound and include all dialogue; you will describe anything significant found in the background in each shot; you will indicate the transitions between shots.

these are the movies to choose from:
For your analysis, you will choose ONE of the following sequences: “Orange Groves” from Chinatown (Polanski, 1974), “Sally’s Death” from Blow Out (De Palma, 1981), “Kathy’s Birthday Party” from The Birds (Hitchcock, 1963), “David in a Nightgown” from Bringing Up Baby (Hawks, 1938).

I have a detailed outline of the assignment but i am so lost ... need help!!

Default Gender in film musicals?

For the musical fans, how do you feel women are represented in film musicals? Are they independant role models to look up to? Or are they passive, boring domestic slaves to the men they pine after?
Thoughts?

Default Capital Punishment Films

Hi guys,

This is my first post and for my dissertation i've decided to write about The representation of capital punishment in films, but can't find a lot of literature about the theory behind the movies, including the likes of The Green Mile & Dead Man Walking etc. I'm trying to formulate an argument based on whether of the not most films surrounding capital punishment oppose the death penalty.

I would really appreciate any ideas you may have that may help me produce a clearer essay as at the moment I still have ideas floating all over the places. But I need to ground them to form a solid argument. I need lots of books to reference so anything you guys may have read or online journals you may think could be useful please post links.

I really appreciate it guys!

Default 3D or not 3D, that is the question.

What are you perceptions on the world of 3D and how do you think it will revolutionize in the future?

Default British Social Realism

Hello people of the public sphere. I am in my last year of University (dissertation time ). I'm studying Film and Television productions. If you could take time to answer these following questions i would be very grateful. Thank you.

The questions are on the subject of social realism films in the contemporary era. i.e Nil by Mouth, This Is England, Tyrannosaur and My Name Is Joe .

Questions:

1. Who decides the genre of a Social realism film?

2. Do Social realism films actually mirror society?

3. Why does it not have as big of an audience as Hollywood?

4. Is Social realism successful on the basis of empathy?

5. Will Social realism become extinct and obsolete?

6. Is Social realism dated?

Thank you very much. Look forward to hearing your views!!
