I didn't know you had any issues with Haneke. I thought he'd be right up your alley, tbh.

Though I don't post often anymore, I thought I was firmly in the camp of 'what a load of boring toss' when it comes to his output. I can't bear the thought of watching Hidden again.

ah yes - Hidden is like watching paint dry. I didn't mean you liked him as a director..I think the only Haneke fan we've had on here was McClennan - Big Mike. I didn't realise you'd panned him as loudly as some.
I keep trying to get something out of his work (incl Funny Games, both versions and Benny's Video) but find it all so static. Haven't seen the one you mention yet though.

I want Haneke to win an Oscar for the sheer entertainment value of his acceptance speeches. His 'Susi, ay laffff you' when accepting the Golden Globe for Das Weisse Band a few years back has become a running gag over here. He sounds like a footballer from southern Vienna when he's trying to speak English.

Hidden is boring and frustrating, I'll give you that, and Haneke seems like a pretentious ass. I did find one glimmer of genius in Funny Games though (only seen the American version) - it's quite a small element relative to the rest of the film, however, which is just a dismal slog (although I guess it's meant to be).

SPOILER:
More to do with the writing than anything else, but I liked the way the two invaders never escalate the violence- they just impose on the family to the point where they escalate the conflict themselves. It's a fresh approach and has quite a chilling effect, I find - in a way the family brings the violence on themselves, but are forced to do so.

Without a doubt, experiencing not only IMAX for the first time but 48 FPS as to be the highlight of the year for me. The experience was like no other and I'm just thankful to be one of those who can say they had seen the very first film shot in 48 fps! Makes me happy I am apart of cinema history!

Along with this i must say there was some great performances from the likes of Jennifer Lawrence (Hunger Games) and other personal favourites of mine are the animations that were released. The likes of 'The Lorax', 'Hotel Translyvania' and 'Brave' to name a few really stood out for me.

There were many stellar performances form the likes of Martin Freeman in 'The Hobbit' and Christian Bale in 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Tom Hardy also stood out with performances in 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Lawless'
