That is a good point... He never got to see what a phenomenon his character became, thanks to his performance. Agree it's hard to imagine a better Joker coming along.

It is and I think it will stand for a long time as one of the memorable villain turns in modern film. I know there'll always be some people who think he only got that Oscar because he died; and they're right - but his performance was thoroughly worthy. It's just that, had he lived, the Academy would not have given it because on the whole they don't even nominate actors in comic book films.
