Default Lincoln

Imagine an epic period episode of The West Wing and you're pretty much there.
It's sometimes spielbergian to a fault, veering to close to Oscar worthy on occasion, but, for the most part it's hugely entertaining and surprisingly funny.
Performances are off the chart, to the point that Joseph Gordon levitt turns up and barely registers. Day Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and James Spader just eat up the screen whenever they're on and it looks fantastic.

Two thumbs up, with a hat and cool beard.

Heard good things about this.

Some say its a bit worthy but it has pedigree. I think people feel it is going after the Oscar in a big way and that shows in a sort of 'Amistad' kind of way.

Too true, Lincoln's little stories were very Bartlett... I have no idea how accurate this is historically - did they really say "No, oh stuff it, yes" (perhaps not exact line).

I found it sloooow getting started but enjoyed it once we were about 45 minutes in. Dare I say I enjoyed Tommy Lee Jones performance more than Day Lewis?

I thought that Lincoln was a masterful exercise of filmmaking, and of course Daniel Day-Lewis' performance was amazing! Steven Spielberg always make great movies, and this one is unique and bold in its own right. However, it was a little bit dry as a film - that being said its still by far the best film ever made about voting or congressional bureaucracy.
