I'm gonna second that review - although I don't think I enjoyed it as much as you dude, all your points are spot on.

I do have to voice a few gripes with it, though. The plot is riddled with holes, which kind of disrupted the attempts at depth and realism. I don't think it quite managed to convey the importance of M and Bond's relationship like it wanted to, though it gets points for trying.

It had great action sequences, low key but very striking. It was quite funny at points, and I think Bardem's villain is great. He really brings the character's derangement out in all these little tics and movements, brilliantly done. The bloodlessness is a problem though. I know there's certification issues but sharks used to routinely eat people in Bond films, it seems like they could go a little further. Although perhaps they were trying to make way for what I believe was the Bond franchise's first f-bomb?

If nothing else this was really refreshing for a Bond film. I'm interested to see if all the impressionistic touches Mendes uses in this film carry over - after fifty years it might be an interesting avenue to explore, allowing each director a bit more stylistic/creative freedom with each film.

Why thank you Keeb, I felt that it deserved a touch more attention that my normal single sentence review.

@Snaps, you make some good points that I scooted over. You are quite right, the plot is gaping in places, for me it didnt effect the film for me too much, but I can see how it could.
It was the first f-bomb, made me laugh it was so unexpected, especially from Dench!!
I hope the style does carry over, although with each directors own slant. I wouldnt mind seeing a Bond done by Paul Thomas Anderson, or maybe Duncan Jones?

Apples, oranges and grapes. The Hurt Locker is one of my favourite movies (finally managed to watch the BluRay with audio commetary recently, really interesting), but it has absolutely nothing to do with a Bond movie.

I liked Skyfall a lot. Action, character development, an unhinged bad guy, and some well-placed laughs. I never thought to look at my watch despite the length of the movie because there was something going on at all times.

I'll have to get in touch with a friend to see if I won a bet though. SPOILER ALERT! I bet my sister that my friend's husband needed more hankies when the DB5 met its end than she did when they crushed the Beetles in the beginning (she's a Beetle enthusiast). They are both huge Bond fans, so the verdict should be in by now.

I think that's what gave it such high pre-release ratings.

But turned out to be underwhelming in the end.

The first hour was rubbish. It was like a cut and paste idea of what someone thought a bond film should be. It picked up when the villian finally appeared and then went full tilt towards a great ending. Good save

So Skyfall arrived in the post and it's every bit as good as I remember from the big screen. It loses none of it's thrill and impact on the small screen. Bardem was brilliant as the unhinged Silva with Craig and Dench just as good, if not better. I quite fancy seeing it again right now, but I have work in the morning Maybe tomorrow. I'm a big Bond fan and I think it's a very worthy addition to the franchise. More of the same, please.

4.5/5

It might be harsh for some, but face it, Skyfall is the best Bond movie ever.
