The Lovely Bones

Quite disappointed with this, I was expecting a tug on the emotions film considering the storyline, especially as I have a young daughter myself. But It didn't really get to me as it could have done and I think the main reason is the actors that played the parents (Mark Wahlberg & Rachel Weisz) they didn't come across that they were in utter turmoil at their daughters death. Maybe they should have chosen better actors? The girl (Saoirse Ronan) and the murderer (Stanley Tucci) were really good and carried the film by themselves. The vision of the afterlife just reminded me of the film 'What Dreams may Come'.

This could have been such a better film, Peter Jackson you may be good at making 3 hours blockbusters but you need to pull your socks up with these type of films.

Better than an Oscar winning actress? True, some lame ducks have won the Oscar (Halle Berry springs to mind) but Rachel is a good actor. She must've been having an off time with the film, surely.

Perhaps, and I know its a long shot, Peter Jackson just isn't that great a director.

Maybe I am being a bit too hard on Rachel as she isn't in the film as much as the other leading characters. Maybe its that I am getting a bit sick of English actors playing Americans?

I so wanted more from this film, I so wanted it to make me blub like a baby.

Try the book Jay. I absolutely hated it, but i think it got plenty of other folks tear ducts working overtime.

I would like to read the book but I am sooo rubbish at reading books, I am still on the first chapter of Frankie Boyles book and I started it at Christmas.

The one thing that I can take away from the film is that after I finished watching it I stopped to check on my little girl before I went to bed and sat there holding her hand for a little while as she slept, thinking to myself that I don't know how I'd cope if anything happened to her.

Edge of Darkness

Not a bad thriller, I didn't see the original TV version so I can't compare it. Mel Gibson was very good in this and I loved seeing him in front of the camera again. The picture and sound quality on the blu-ray version that I watched was very good.

The book is actually even worse and just exacerbates some of the flaws in the story. The ending, in particular, was just amazingly bad.

Just seen this in HMV on blu-ray for £28. Twenty eight quid are they having a laugh, daylight robbery.
