3 movies.3 genres.

Cashback. not a bad little film. has British Indie Movie written all over it but has a few funny gags, some boobies and fairly competant acting. It won't win any prizes and at times feels like it has escaped from TV but pleasent enough. 3/5

The Ruins. God this trys so very hard. Alas its flat and not that scary. Acting is passable to bad and the plot is full of holes. Not really one to reccomend. 2/5

Beast Set in Afghanistan during the Russian invasion it tells the story of a tank crew seperated from its unit and under attack from locals. Its rivetting, awesome stuff and one of the best war movies Ive seen for ages. Definitley see this one 4.5/5

Just saw Despicable Me in theaters. Funny, quirky, and thoroughly entertaining. I'd say it's gonna be a great Oscar race this year for Best Animated Feature between Toy Story 3, How to Train Your Dragon, and this one. What a great year for animation. 9/10.

Default Mr Nice

Mr Nice

Saw this for it's Gala Premier in Edinburgh (where i'm from). It was an excellent film. I'd definitely give it 4 1/2 out of 5. Captured the era excellently and Rhys Ifans played it so well. The only let-down for me was David Thewlis. He just wasn't convincing for me and I was concious the whole time that he was an actor playing an IRA terrorist. Rhys on the other hand totally became Howard Marks for me.

It's a very funny film. Laughed out loud on a number of occasions and that's something I don't often do. It doesn't glamourise drug use but it certainly doesn't condemn it either. On the whole, highly recommended and it should be out on general realease I believe in October.

Default Karate Kid (2010)

Just saw the new version yesterday and it's great. Essentially the same but with enough differences to keep it interesting. It was 2 hours 20 mins (whatever happened to the interval???). Som brilliant scenery and fight scenes. Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith were ace,

Default The Karate Kid

One you get over the fact this is not about "Karate" at all, this is actually a pretty decent film, with excellent performances from young Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.
The believability factor is stretched a little thin, but it is at times stunningly filmed and the action sequences are good.
The ending is a little predictable but it fulfills its brief and leaves you feeling good!
A solid 7/10.

Default Thank goodness for the Prince Charles

Sunset Boulevard, lat night at the Prince Charles. Verdict = 5 stars. Perfect in every way. A daring performance from Gloria Swanson, which is very personal. And what cameos! what attention to detail! It was clealy made to be seen in the cinema and during the final speech when she says "You see, this is my life! It always will be! Nothing else! Just us, the cameras, and those wonderful people out there in the dark!... " and she looks right at the camera and gestures directly towards the seats... Well I have to admit I it sent shivers through my spine. And she was still about to deliver that iconic (and misquoted) line! (swoon)

Cronos - Del Toro's debut film, very good for a debut but i think he was just trying to find his style.. so it's nothing on his other films! 3/5

Predators - Enjoyable, with some good and bad acting, cheesey and thrilling scenes, clever and stupid plot points. again evens out to about 3/5

Eclipse - A load better than the first two, darker, more enjoyable, good points about how Bella had to choose who to go with. getting David Slade as the director, brilliant idea, it needed a horror directors touch! 3/5.

so yeah, its all been 3/5 recently, Inception and Toy Story 3 should change that though!

last film i saw was the last airbender, 3.5 stars, terrible film, the directer uses too much slo-mo, and the story doesn't match the cartoons, he leaves characters out and the acting it very poor. i hate M. Night Shyamalan. he should stop directing films.

Default Predators

Predators, if i was to rate it, it'd be a 3/5. It drags a little at times & some of the acting is woeful. But as a whole I enjoyed it (Though I may not be the best judge, I'm part of the apparently tiny minority that doesn't hate Predator 2).
