Unthinkable
Looked like a made for tv film, Sam Jackson phoned in his part, Carrie Anne Moss can't act and the rest of the cast were awful except for Michael Sheen who was ok. To think I stayed up late to watch this film. |

Faster
A welcome return to The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) as a mean and moody guy instead of the usual Disney stuff he has been doing of late. Its a simple revenge thriller and sort of pays homage to revenge movies of the 70's. The rock doesn't have much to say in this but then he doesn't need to, he just shoots to kill. The only downside of this movie for me was the guy that played the hired killer, an English actor called Oliver Jackson-Cohen, he is absolutely dire. He must have got into this film through nepotism because he can't act. |

The Book of Eli.
Much, much better than I was expecting. Refreshing to see an imaginative and well made genre film again. |

I watched "Amer" last night... Everybody says it's brilliant but i found it "too much". Ok, it's an homage to italian horror films of the '70's, no doubt about it. The directors made a visit at the local market looking like an conspiracy. If you like pictures it's brilliant. A bunch of great pictures, that's what it is. Nice colours and scenes and a lot of atmosphere. But that's that. I enjoyed the arty part of the film but that was all... It looked more like an "art exercise" rather than a film.

Battle LA
First of all I had a go at the manager of my local VUE so I missed the first 5 minutes due to me not being impressed with the film having subtitles for the hard of hearing, I booked this showing online and it didn't say it had subtitles. While I was having a go at him about that I brought up the fact that it was the opening weekend of a big action film and they had it on one of the smaller screens. He told me that Hall Pass was on the biggest screen? Hall Pass FFS. Anyway if you like the kind of film that has cheesy lines, awful script, bad acting and loads of gunfire and explosions then this is the film for you. Take Independence day, throw in a little Cloverfield and the game Call of Duty and there you have it. I didn't care for any of the characters at all and even the one supposed to be sad scene was like they nicked the end of the Champ. The aliens were nothing new and some of the CGI was terrible. To think I got to see a film with such awful dialogue and got lumbered with it having subtitles too. |

Brilliant Love.
This is one of the most natural and realistic movies about a couple in love that Ive seen. Ok its a tad ( mm cliched is the wrong word) forced in some places but the main couple are really believable. Its not a fantastic movie plot wise or in any other way really. But if you want a good date movie and one that is fresh and intriguing then watch this 3.5/5

All the pretty horses.
Cormac McArthy is an author you either love or hate. The guy is totally in love with the old west and in this adaption of his book it is plainly obvious. Billy Bob Thornton directs and produces and makes a commendable job of it. The sense of space is awesome. Some of the scenary stunning. The cast is good ( Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz especially) but its here where it all falls down. The book evokes the feel of the country so well that it is inevitable that some of it will be lost on screen. Its a very faithful adaptation of the book and the cast try hard to do it justice. Worth watching but still a long way behind The Road as McArthys best adaption. 3/5

'Battle : Los Angeles'
Total wargasm! In the absence of there never being a film of 'Gears of War' or 'Halo' this is the film for you, it just doesn't pause for breath, it's essentially one relentless set piece of thundering machine guns and jingoism. It's enjoyable for a time, but I was left feeling quite exhausted towards the end of it, I never finished 'Gears of War' or 'Halo 3' and could never play games like that for longer than an hour at a time without feeling, well a little bored. I would have liked maybe a hint of the bigger picture, but the action was great as were the effects, although Michelle Rodriguez was wasted I thought. 2.5/5
