The Resident
I really wanted to like this. It's got Christopher Lee in it, it's by Hammer and Jeffrey Dean Morgan or whatever he's called has been good in Watchmen, The Losers and Supernatural. What looked good was a complete let down. Really boring, predictable and not scary.

'Blade Trinity'

It's a Blade film, but it doesn't quite feel like one, the trilogy is a peculiar one. 'Blade' was an action film, 'Blade 2' was a horror film and' Blade Trinity' is erm a comedy?

Ryan Reynolds, Parker Posey and a ludicrous turn from Triple H complete with vampire chihuahua all amuse but it over steps the mark to parody with it's goofiness and Wesley Snipes doing 'proper acting' at the death of Whistler (again) was painful.

He's better when he's a monosyllabic mountain of death, don't let that man emote!

'Dune'

Caught this in a lazy haze yesterday on Channel 5, it really is a gloriously flawed epic, a beautiful score and with earnest performances, over burdened by exposition inner monologues from every character and if remade would probably require three films minimum on a 'LOTR' scale.

It's a nostalgia flick, one of the films I was raised on, like Blade Runner and Close Encounters, my dad was a sci-fi freak. Now I've not read the original novel, but I have seen the weight of the thing and I can only imagine Lynch did his best with such a vast source. The worms are still mightily impressive for the time and the heart plugs make me feel queasy.

I should really try and track down the extended cut, maybe even read the some of the books, but it's all a bit over facing.

"We have worm sign the likes of which God has never seen!"

Fantastic film, had to travel a bit to see as it wasn't shown locally to me but completely worth it. Great to see so much british talent on show and the soundtrack is probably one of the best I've heard.

Treasure Planet
This film really sucks. It's overly sentimental, even for Disney. Even Joseph Gordon Levitt can't make the main character likeable and most of the secondary characters are more forgettable than you'd expect from a Disney cartoon. Emma Thomson and David Hyde Pierce's characters are distracting enough. Watching it in HD, I couldn't believe it was made less than ten years ago. The animation is pretty poor and nothing compared to earlier films like Beauty and the Beast (which actually still holds up beautifully). 1/5

Welcome, Robby. Nice to have you on here. We prefer links to users' review sites to be placed in the signature, rather than within individual posts. Consequently I've moved your link and amended it to your generic profile page. If you want to change it to, simply log in and update your profile:

Agreed. Its a good companion piece to Eastern Promises which has the same star and director. Recommended.

I agree Ancient, both good films. It's great the way Cronenberg has reinvented himself from 'that director that does weird stuff', not that I don't love some of his earlier work. He's always been a risktaker and I admire that.

Buried

An outstanding performance by Ryan Reynolds and a well directed and cleverly made film. I don't want to say too much about it because of spoilers but it is such a bleak film.
