I watched the first 45 minutes of this last night and turned it off. Very poor and I agree done much better in Rise of the Footsoldier. Although that was more about Carlton Leach and his time after the ICF.

Jackie Chan at his very best, such a funny film and just goes to show you what films were like before you had stunt doubles to break their arms and legs for you.
Next film on the list is Wheels on Meals. Also special mentions go out to Sammo Hung for being ace ![]() 5/5 |

Friends with Benefits
Good when it was being comedy, less so when they chucked in the 'romantic' and 'dramatic'. Still don't buy Justin Timberlake as a serious actor. Still, fella if you're being dragged to a romantic comedy this weekend make it this rather than I don't know how she does it.... |

Lets get this out the way first - I know the director of this movie which makes for an odd experience when watching a film. This review is based on my reaction to the movie though and not any personal bias.
Set in the Scottish highlands, the film follows the adventures of a group of mountain climbers as they, well, climb some mountains. Along the way the discover a young girl buried alive in the middle of nowhere. Since she speaks no english the best our motley crew can do is head back to the nearest town. Which is easier said than done when the kidnappers are right behind them and have no intention of letting them out alive. The scene is now set for a beautifully shot and staged cat and mouse thriller where the oppressive landscape is just as dangerous as the trained gunmen. Several sweaty palmed set pieces ensue. Director, Julian Gilbey handles these scenes very efficiently and the film gathers a lot of momentum during the first two acts. It's unfortunate then that the film blows all this good work in final act that seems to belong to some straight to video, violent gangster movie (his last movie was Rise of the Footsoldier!). The poor screenplay (by Julian and his brother William) leaves the main characters sidelined in favour of dull shootouts and macho posturing from, up to this point, secondary players. The result is that you leave with a shrug rather than a smile. Had it kept up the mountain setting and its focus on the main protagonists I would have had nothing but praise for it - even overlooking the Gilbey brothers rather wooden ear for dialogue, but as it is, it feels like a missed opportunity. It has however secured its director a nice gig directing a big Hollywood sci-fi action movie now. With a more professional script in hand, it will certainly be something to look forward too. So, 70% worthy of your time and money but prepare for a disappointing ending. |

Just watched The Duchess. Actually quite surprised how much I liked it, especially given how much I usually dislike Keira Knightley.

The money might not sleep, but it sure put me to sleep.
Don't know what the film was supposed to do other than say a big "Screw you!!!" to everyone who pulled a fast one on GG in the original. Even the fancy graphics couldn't save it. |

Watched this last night and bugger me I was pleasantly suprised. Very good idea on how the invasion occurs and well executed. Reasonable acting, super special effects, believable characters. It was 1 hour and 50 minutes well spent and I enjoyed it. Won't win any oscars but a very good 7 out of 10. Infinitely better and certainly more exciting thyan the snoozefest that is Monsters.

Agreed. This film was utter dogshit. Original was a fairly formulaic 80's success which was ok but you didn't care about anyone in this film or what happened to them. Very poor.

I've now watched this film twice, and other than some pretty grisly violence, I've never understood what's going on.
Someone will have to explain for me, otherwise it's going to be a 1/5 over here. |

It just gets better and better with each viewing
![]() But if you've seen it, you will know that, towards the end, it sort of starts to get disappointing ![]() So it can only average a 4/5 here. |
