Can we not get email notification? Pain in the arse trawling threads for replies.

Hey Punchbowl,

Although I haven't used the facility myself, I think this is something the user can control via the User Control Panel - which you can access by clicking on the Private Messages link in the top right hand corner of the Forum pages...

Once you click on Private Messages, scroll down to the Edit Options link under Settings & Options.

There is a section under Messaging & Notification for Default Thread Subscription Mode:
When you post a new thread, or reply to a topic, you can choose to automatically add that thread to your list of subscribed threads, with the option to receive email notification of new replies to that thread.

And then you control how often you want to receive emails: Instant, Daily, Weekly, Never. This will then be your default setting.

However you can choose on a thread-by-thread basis whether you want to receive an email: when you reply to a topic or post a new thread, you'll see below the Submit Reply button some Additional Options. Under Thread Subscription you can again choose when to be notified...

This should all be so much more obvious. I have logged a job to make this navigation much more clear.

Default Competitions on totalfilm.com

Who wins the competitions? Does anyone? If so, total film should make a bigger deal about it...

Hi MrSmith,

I completely agree with you. There used to be a Competition Winners page on the website, but the site was re-designed in 2008, and the Winners page seems to have disappeared.

I'll raise this with the Digital Team.

Thanks,

Liz

Default eMail Notification.

I could be missing something...again, but could we not get this implemented? I would be more inclined to explore the forum if I knew topics were being used and I could easily come back to a discussion.

Hi punchbowl,
You just need to go to your profile, click on Edit Options in the Settings & Options section and then update the Default Thread Subscription Mode. Not very obvious but very useful once you've done it.

I think I'll add some instructions to the Instructions thread.

Okey dokes. I've added slightly more comprehensive instructions to the Forum Rules, Policies & Instructions section in Forum HQ:

http://www.totalfilm.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16186

In addition to what I said in my post above, you can subscribe on a thread by thread basis, and you can choose to receive emails instantly, daily or weekly. You can also view your list of Subscribed Threads at any time via your Profile.
