...as it says on the tin really.
Who are your, or who do you think, was the best in a debut performance, not newcomer, that can cover several films, but the best first time Acting you have seen on screen by a newbie.

Some good new threads here dude. A forum is lucky to have you.
I nominate Sharlto Copley, for Wikus Van De Merwe in District 9. Simply brilliant feature film debut. (He has only one previous short film to his acting history.) |

Does Cate Blanchet fit into this category? As the first film I saw her in was Elizabeth and I thought she was superb.

I'm not sure I understand your question, dude. Can you clarify? Surely a debut means that at the time they were a newcomer.

Peter O Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia.
To think it was his first main role movie AND he got nominated for an Oscar for it is just amazing. It's also one of the greatest epics of all time.

I do try ![]() I too agree with your shout, it was who i was thinking of when i thought of the thread, I think he is bleedin fantastic and, despite having only been in one film, is my current fave actor working at the moment. The two scenes in particular that stand out for me is when (SPOILER) he has to shoot the prawn (SPOILER OVER) and also when he gets off the phone to his mrs and proper breaks down crying, it seemed so real, so genuine. lol, of course, I didnt word it very well in the first place. By newcomer I meant in an Oscar sense, a newcomer can have several films on the go, or many yet to be released, I meant more in the sense of a persons first performance on screen, lol, which maybe i should of put in the first place!!

Eric Bana 'Chopper'
Jason Lee 'Mallrats' That's a struggle really, I keep thinking of child actors, like Haley Joel OSment, or Freddie Highmore 'Finding Neverland', the kid from 'Love Actually' or Nicholas Hoult 'About a Boy'. Quality performances in a world of Harry Potter flavoured child actors. |

If child performances count, which I suppose they do, Christian Bale in Empire of the Sun.
I see from IMDb that he'd been in a couple of TV things and a film called Mio min Mio (great title!) but for all intents and purposes, Empire of the Sun was where he arrived. Good call, Mr Chop. Powerhouse performance. |

And Crowe in Romper Stomper. Suberb performance from him.
