I agree with Jonesey. Do you not have opinions of your own ? in fact if these ARE your opinions then you REALLY need to sit down and revisit some of these movies without having read critiques of them from others.
Regarding Last House. When it was released ( escaped ? ) it was almost ignored. It gained its notoriety through being one of the first films to be put on the video nasties list. It was purely the fact that it contained a rape scene that got it put there. It was NEVER influential on any movie to any great extent and to say the likes of Elm St. etc would not have existed without it is not true.

I promise you that all the reviews I post on these forums are written entirely by me. If you need evidence then please suggest a Horror film for me to review and i''ll do it depending if or not I have actually seen it...

It's a matter of opinion. The Last House on the Left is one of my favourite Horror movies but your tastes may be different to mine.

I am not saying Last House was influential to movies such as Elm Street, I meant that Last House on the Left kick started Craven's directional position meaning without this movie, he may of stayed not very notcied meaning Elm Street may of never been discovered because Wes Craven may of not been discovered either...

The Fly

"Something went wrong in the lab today. very wrong"

The Fly is a 1986 remake of the 1958 movie starring Vincent Price.

It follows the story of Seth Brundle, a scientist who has created a life changing invention... Teleportation Pods! One evening when Seth suspects his girlfriend, Veronica is having an affair, he gets incredibly drunk and decides to test his invention. As he completes the test, the scientist presumes everything is OK. But it isn't! While teleporting, Seth shared the "telepod" with a common housefly and the teleportation caused their genes to mix resulting in some rather vile consequences for him!

Their are some great acting performances in The Fly but their are just two names that really deserve special mentions... Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis. Their on screen chemistry together is just fantastic and the relationship they have on screen is also incredibly believeable. For his role as Seth Brundle, Jeff Goldblum won the Best Actor Saturn award in 1987. Geena Davis was nominated for Best Actress at the same ceremony in 1987 but she didn't win the award. David Cronenberg had directed some fantastic Cult movies before The Fly including The Dead Zone, Videodrome, Scanners, and The Brood meaning he had a lot to live up to if he wanted to make The Fly a success but he managed to succeed with his task and ended up directing arguably one of his best movies to date. Mark Irwin's cinematography is beautiful and just as brilliant as the other work he did with David Cronenberg. Howard Shore and Nile Rodgers provide the film with a fantastic "80s meets sci-fi" musical score in which they were nominated for an award. But possibly two of the most important people who made this movie are Chris Walas and Stephan Dupuis! Without them, The Fly would of been terrible as they provide the most gruesome, disgusting and gross-out makeup effects I have ever seen (and especially in a movie directed by David Cronenberg!) Walas and Dupuis managed to scoop an Oscar in 1987 for their ghastly makeup skills and techniques!

In conclusion, The Fly is a truly incredible Horror movie that managed to gross-out cinema audiences worldwide and was a rare remake that was superior to the original movie!

Fear Factor: 4/5
Gore Score: 5/5
Movie Rating: 9/10
Overall: 18/20

I totally understand. Thank you. I have literally just written a review for David Cronenberg's The Fly ^^^^ and it is only able to view on the Total Film forums as I haven't posted it to other sites. Thanks again :-)

I'd have to strongly disagree here. Blair Witch is the most overrated horror movie of its decade and can truthfully say I didn't find it scary at all. In fact I dozed off before the end and had to ask my other half how it ended. We were both bored silly by it. My feeling is, (I've said this before on the original TF Forum but I don't mind repeating it) - it's about as scary as a family holiday in the woods.

Kids screaming? Check.
Shaky hand-held footage? Check.
Meaningless crap made out of twigs? Sure, why not.

It's a big pile of nothing that got bigged up through the Internet and in this instance my god the Internet has a lot to answer for. The success of this film has resulted in any handheld piece of crud being marketed for the masses, REC is an example. In conclusion: I f'ucking HATE The Blair Witch Project.

horrorhound, you've used an awful lot of hyperbole over what amounts to very average movies. You obviously love your b-grade horror, but surely must acknowledge that these films are ultimately just rather average in a genre that has seen some true classics, like The Exorcist, Psycho, The Haunting (original), The Innocents, The Shining...Shouldn't such hyperbole be saved for real brilliance rather than cheesy, hammy, and in some cases, like the Blair Witch(for I completely agree with morris), downright embarrassing films?

As for 'shocking', Martyrs and Frontiers, as has already been mentioned, are the kinds of films that truly shock.

Lets just say that I have an individual taste in movies. I think i'm just awkward like all major Hollywood critics are (although I do actually have a lot of good movies in my favourites list)

On my DVD copy of The Blair Witch Project, on the back of the cover it has a quote by Total Film saying "Will scare you witless... Just keep telling yourself it's only a movie." Haha :-)

I love some crap movies, I love some pretty average movies and I love some movies that everyone agrees are great :-)

Then more fool TF. To be honest the only ones it would scare witless are my ninety year old grandmother (if she could stay awake) and my cat.

Haha :-) My account of it being scary was when it was first released in '99 when I was 6 and I watched it on VHS and it made me crap myself! Now I'm 15 and have it on DVD which has been played at least a good 7 times, I don't really find it all that scary :-) Haha :-)
