I'm sorry, I didn't realise you were quite so young. You keep writing reviews, and ignore my criticisms. Just don't over do the gushy hyperbole, okay?

No problem. I'd rather have my work criticised to be honest. If I ever do get to be a Film Journalist I am pretty sure the job must come complete with knocks to the head so i'd rather have it harsh now so it wont effect me when i'm really wanting to get somewhere.

[/i]and considering the film's script was completely improvised, their acting was incredibly believable. The film's cinematography was different (was it, or did it draw on other genre of films?) but this wasn't a bad thing. Using a common handi-cam to film the events that were happening added to the overall tension and suspence that was being slowly built up. What makes The Blair Witch Project even more frightening is the fact that the viewer never actually gets to see the witch although descriptions of what she looks like are given allowing them to create an image in their head. Amazingly, this film only had a budget between $500,000 and $750,000 and considering this incredibly low budget, directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez still managed to make a Horror film so terrifying, it was actually believable!
I've emboldened all the hyperbole and repetition to make it clear to you how much you've used in one short review. And I've written some comments in brackets. I guess the main point is, that if you say something is 'incredible' or 'amazing', you need to define just exactly what it is that makes it so. But if you use too much hyperbole in a review, it sounds like sycophantic gushing rather than a carefully considered critique. Your review could ultimately have been written by the distributor, rather than by an objective assessor.

Hi HorrorHound94,

I just wanted to say welcome and good on yer for getting such a lively thread/debate going.

Have you seen some of the classic horrors Jonesy mentioned: The Exorcist, Psycho, The Haunting (original), The Innocents and The Shining? I'd be really interested in reading your reviews of these...

Not at all. It just means that it sounds as if you're someone who would benefit from a load of dosh from the promotion of the film. But it's a skill in its own right to write that sort of promotional blurb.

There you go, Jonesey the career advisor has spoken. Your future is now written in stone and your whole future life is set. Just don't thank him or he will get bigheaded.

Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho

A new - and altogether different - screen excitement!!!

Psycho is the 1960 Horror movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

It follows the story of Marion Crane, a young woman who has stolen $40,000 from her employer to pay towards her wedding. One evening, she drives to a motel in which she is savagely stabbed to death while having a shower. Not long before Marion goes missing, her sister, Lila begins to search for her and where better to go than the Motel where she was murdered! Soon, Lila uncovers the truth behind her sister's death and other secrets that lie within the Motel and it's owner, Norman Bates.

The film was an overall brilliant Horror movie and what impresses me even more is that Psycho is Alfred Hitchcock's debut Horror film. Classic silver screen stars that make a good impression with their fantastic acting skills in this movie include Janet Leigh (who got an Oscar nomination in 1961 for her role as Marion Crane), Vera Miles and not forgetting Anthony Perkins who's portrayal of Norman Bates left a benchmark in Horror cinema history! John L. Russel successfully makes the cinematography in this movie oustanding especially in the shower scene where we witness the unexpcted death of Janet Leigh's character, Marion. What makes the shower scene so impressive is that Russel manages to make the audience believe Marion is being stabbed to death without actually allowing them to witness a single stab to her body which takes incredible skill to do! Alfred Hitchcock manages to direct Psycho with great care and precision making the film a success at the box office worldwide! Also, Joseph Stefano manages to write the film's screenplay beautifully and it shows that he has great writing skills and techniques.

In conclusion, Psycho is an all time classic movie in the Horror genre that still enjoys as much success now than it did when it was first released in 1960.

Fear Factor: 2/5
Gore Score: 2/5
Movie Rating: 10/10
Overall: 14/20
