Cool The Simpsons

Wut? No Simpsons thread? well, anyway,

I love The Simpsons, when it's good and I love Flight of the Conchords. So this makes me happy.

I would be excited, but this is current day Simpsons. It's taken a huge fall from its glory days.

Yeah it has lost its glory day feel, its still great and always worth a watch, but not what it used to be, although there is a fabulous montage from season 19 that i saw the other day that everyone should see.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1PlFgC_qcY

You will have to excuse the quality, there are others on youtube but for some unkown wanky reason they change the wonderful music.

I know, it's true it's not what it was and the odd times I catch it these days I can't lie and say I laugh as much as I used to at it. But think about it - it's been going since, what before you were born? It's impossible with all the changes that must occur in that span of time for any programme to stay on top and fresh. Maybe accordingly it should have ended while the going was great but it didn't. Still, if I see it come on when I'm flipping channels I can't help myself. I'm drawn to watch it. {Unless it's about Lisa (who I can't stand) or one of the ones about something equally boring..American history, Krusty and his dad etc}. I have a special fondness for the out-there Halloween episodes and anything Homer-centric.

I think we have to remember how many great moments it's given us and take into account that it is part of TV history. It's not perfect but it has given some moments of near perfect humour over the years.

I'm sure you're right Silly and it will be an anti-climax, but I still want to see the boys Simpson-ized and hear their charming Antipodean accents.

Is anyone bothered either way that the Simpsons is probably in it's final year (or two)? I don't watch it as religiously as I did 10 or even 5 years ago but it's still one of the funniest American tv shows. I know it's well past it's best and misses the Mark a lot more than it used to, but I'm definitely going to miss it when it's gone.

Not long ago I felt I'd reached the end with enjoying The Simpsons. I saw a really poor episode, season 21 or so, about Moe's bar cloth (I know, right..) and thought- they've run completely out of ideas.
But recently I started watching it again and I'm enjoying it afresh now, even liking some of the more up to date episodes. True, its golden hey day is long gone but more times than not, it can make me chuckle a few times and sometimes it hits a home truth that I have to respect.

two favourite lines recently
Homer, on being unable to give someone a bad haircut even when trying to: "Oh no. Like Mozart and Johnny Knoxville, my genius is unstoppable!"
Homer to Moe, doing the bar for a family get together: "My in-laws are coming. I need drinks strong enough to forget that I hate them, but not so strong I tell them I love them."
