Default Comedy in scenarios which really shouldn't be funny...

I am a horrible person of questionable mental stability...

No, I'm not talking about my personal demons, I'm instead talking about film tastes!

Specifically, comedy in scenarios which really shouldn't be funny. Does anyone else have these moments? And I'm not talking of the 'so bad its good' variety. I realised last year that I make a horrible companion to horror films because I often laugh at the scenes of extreme pain and torture. I was the one person in the screening of Antichrist absolutely howling with laughter at all the grotty happenings, they were just so goddamn funny.

Please.... tell me I'm not the only one.

There are times when the gratuitous violence or torture is so over the top that the only natural response is laughter. Von Trier falls into that category I think, he goes overboard and aims at excess that threatens to become funny even if what is occurring is really quite nasty.

Saying that, if you find yourself laughing at the second half of Martyrs it might be time to see a psychiatrist for a wee chat.

That bit in the new Rambo film when the camp is attacked. Its terrible to admit, but me and three mates fell about laughing when one of the bad guys chucks a kid on to a fire, its so brutal and over the top, oh god, im even smirking while typing this it was so funny.

That's because chucking a kid on a fire is funny.

Hey Jonesy, I found this lovely little image for you:

Cherish it, let the joy unfold as it loops over for eternity.

Nice one, although unfortunately the kid is still alive.

I do find myself laughing at great 'technical' moments.

I burst out laughing at the end of Cape Fear when the boat crashes and the camera rotates. Such a brilliantly audacious shot. I was the only person who did though, which was slightly embarrassing.

Sometimes things are just so cool you can't help but express your joy with a little laugh.
