I'll bet there's a bank of awesome music videos out there. It's a great art form to work in I hear, the best will tell a really well rounded story in 5 minutes or under and include awesome visuals and stunning trickery. They don't always have to make sense, each video can be it's own world.
I really want some good examples of this! I'm trying to compile a list of really good aesthetically pleasing videos, ones that are clever and really engaging. Thoughts? |

Chris Cunningham - Frozen (Madonna), Come to Daddy (Aphex Twin), Windowlicker (Aphex Twin)
David Fincher - Judith (A Perfect Circle), Only (NIN) Mark Romanek - Closer (NIN), The Perfect Drug (NIN), Criminal (Fiona Apple), Hurt (Johnny Cash) Mark Pellington - We're in This Together (NIN) Shynola - How Long? (How to Destroy Angels) A bit of bias as you can probably see, but all of these provide interesting imagery. Also check out the work of Michel Gondry and the Video Directors series of DVDs.

Goddamn, so many to choose. Off the top of my head:
Johnny Cash - Hurt The Battles - My Machines Autechre - Gantz Graf Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight Opeth - Porcelain Heart Also, every Radiohead video (except 'Creep', I think) has some sort of conceptual gimmick/style that makes them all worth checking out... on the basis of just aesthetic though, 'There There' is probably the best one. Same goes for Tool and Puscifer. Also, given the amount of Hertfordshire people on here, it would be remiss of me not to point out this little gem by Watford grime artist Dubbledge: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYKw-2CgeOI |

Yeah Chris Cunningham immediately came to mind when I posted this. Is he still doing stuff? I heard he was going to make a feature.
Not seen any Radiohead videos actually, I'll bet they're pretty good. |

Good call. Tool videos are mind-blowing. Radiohead vids are usually thought provoking and stunning.

Marilyn Mansons The Beautiful People video is fantastic. I also remember the video for Greedy Fly by Bush being quite amazing. I think they recycled the sets from Se7en for it. Shame about the song.

It is. That was a ground-breaker in terms of style and innovation, highly influential. The director is Floria Sigismondi. She also directed Tourniquet for Manson in the same vein.

Good thread! Enjoy looking at music vids on YouTube. Currently checking out Radiohead thanks to the above - weird stuff but very cool.
Here's a few me and the kids enjoy watching... Midnight Madness - The Chemical Brothers Language - Porter Robinson Your Drums, Your Love - AlunaGeorge The Stars (Are Out Tonight) - David Bowie (evokes the sense of when the hallucigenia are dreamt into reality in Palomo Grove in Clive Barker's The Great And Secret Show) Oh My Dayum - US burger aficionado (ok, not strictly a music vid but it sho gets in your head) |
