This is for those films where the HD transfer means feck all. I see they're re-re-releasing Gladiator with a new make over and from all accounts the RoboCop release wasn't worth the disc it came on.
I myself have a hankering for the Predator Blu-Ray but is it worth the money or should I hold off. So name and shame people. |

I have Predator and it is a little better than the DVD but not much. They are bringing out the ultimate hunter edition with a restored picture.

Master and Commander has been given a shabby transfer. The sound is improved but the picture is little better than the DVD. They even skimped on the bonus features. So disappointing.

A hard one to call is The French Connection. Its not good BUT the original was intentionally shot with heavy grain to give a gritty look. What you have to ask in this case is ..is it worth a BluRay buy ?
Its a comprehensive disc with lots on it but then again so is the special ed. DVD. I bought the BluRay when it was on offer for £10 so Im not too bothered. I would not recommend getting it though if you already own on DVD.

Just watched Green Zone and the picture quality in the night scenes or indoors is really bad, very grainy. Worst I have seen so I will be taking it back for a refund tomorrow.

Goodfellas is shambolic, praying they release a special edition like the cyberdine edition of T2.

I'm failing to see the point in buying anything on bluray that was filmed before about 2000. And even that's pushing it. If something wasn't filmed in HD or was even a digital print I'm guessing it's not going to be very well upscaled from it's original state.
I don't know if it was our bluray player, but several disks I got from Lovefilm on bluray have been non-playable or just bad. Daybreakers was one. There was something else we got that was equally crap on bluray, we may as well have got it on dvd for the difference. |

veFilm are bad. They suck and their disks are not fit to be kitty litter in my tray.As for older films not being worthwhile on Blu, it's not the age so much as how it was filmed in the first instance and how much care and time and expense is taken in the transfer. For example, 2001 A Space Odyssey is quite old but looks great on blu-ray. Whereas many movies shot and released during the 80s had a muddy soft focus "video" look to them and I would use caution in selecting from those titles. |

That's because most of your '80s collection is bad Eighties porno, morris.

I've considered buying older animated films on bluray, especially after they've been cleaned up. Some of my old Disney videos are a bit ropey now. Time to replace methinks.
