England's lack of success has a little to do with pride or national identity. Fact is that a lot of the players are second rate and are surrounded by quality foreign talent in the Premier League. For instance, someone like Frank Lampard. Yes he's good at scoring but he's not actually that great of a player. But at Chelsea he's got an excellent squad of players to disguise his shortcomings.

However, it's sad to see the players play with such little passion. What they lack in skill and technical ability could be overcome somewhat by determination and belief. I don't think they could win it, but with the right attitude they could at least do fairly well.

The blame then has simply got to go down to the manager. At their clubs the managers can at least get most of these players to perform pretty well. It's up to Capello to provide some leadership and to install some confidence.

All of this being said, the situation at the moment reeks of 1990. First two games drawn - England playing terribly. Then we got a very narrow win against Egypt and somehow found our way to the Semi-Finals - we only played well once in the whole tournament and lost the game! Therefore I wouldn't be surprised to see something similar happen. Well, as long as Capello comes to his senses and drops Heskey.

This is so. The most overpaid over hyped players in the world we have. Docking their pay, like Ancient suggested might not work but it's worth a shot. The rest of us get paid on performance so why not them?

Awesome effort from NZ (what genuine passion can achieve) and one of the better games to watch so far.

Wouldn't like to be the Korean team when they get back, I think Kim Jong-il will have a little surprise for them.

Ok, I would like to see Argentina win it now. Diego Maradonna could do such a happy little dance.

Video of Capello going absolutely nuts. Even Psycho Pearce looks frightened: http://www.plus.es/videos/Futbol/Mun...utmftb_12/Ves/
