Doesn't Christopher Lee do the vocals on a heavy metal concept album? Or death metal or something. I'm not fully clues up on metal and it's variants. But that's got to be an indication of coolness.

As for the question at hand, its Depp every time. Jason Isaacs also comes across as cool in life as on screen, if his participations on Mayo & Kermode's five live show are anything to go by. Hello to Jason Isaacs. |

Arguable hes better known for the music at the moment, he's hardly a prolific filmmaker the past few years.

He's been in some great movies though (requium, fight club, american psycho, olympic runner movie) and has a very afirming screen presense (whatever that means). The sooner he realises his true vocation the better for all concerned.

Samuel L Jackson likes to think he's cool, and that in itself makes him anything but. In fact, lately, he comes across as nothing but a tit.
Clint Eastwood is the ultimate in cool on and off screen. He might be getting on a bit, but he can still cut a man down with a single glare. And no one is cooler than Joe/Man with No Name.

Agreed with Jonesy here, people like Samuel L J are portrayed as 'cool' which is really only a legacy from 'Pulp Fiction', Jules was cool, Samuel L is a bit of a dork in all honesty.
I guess the definition of cool for would be actors who weren't high on their own supply of ego and celebrity, people like Paddy Considine and Brendan Gleeson. I'd happily share a pint with either.

After seeing him get a standing ovation last night at the Oscars I managed to catch a bio of him on Sky earlier which in turn led me to dig out my dvd of Running Scared in which he starred with the late Gregory Hines. I loved this film when it came out and still found it as funny.
Watching the bio, it was plain to see that Billy is a very nice chap and seems to be well loved by his peers. He has been a good family man and never really got over the death of his father when Billy was in his teens. One fact I found out is that Billie Holiday took him to the cinema to see Shane when he was a young child and sat him on her knee. I think he is a great comedy talent and its a shame he didn't make more films that he did over the years. |

He's an unusual actor Billy Crystal, one of those who is an acquired taste and definitely much more of an American taste at that, for me his appeal is limited. Not as limited as people like Woody Allen granted, who I can't abide, he even makes 'Antz' unwatchable.
His balance between smarm and whine can be off putting, although my knowledge of his work is probably poor, I enjoyed 'Monsters Inc', 'City Slickers' and his random performance in 'The Princess Bride'. But not a lot else. Although I have paid to watch two films of his at the cinema 'America's Sweethearts' (Eugh) and was it with De Niro in 'Analyse This'? They were both utter clag. He always did appear quite genial and charming in what interviews I saw, sadly like most America comedy actors the curse of diminishing returns inevitably strikes a la Steve Martin, Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock. Probably be remembered best for his early body of work. Actually scratch the last one, Chris Rock on film = nails on a chalk board, although is stand up is not without merit.
