Default Fish Tank

I watched Fish Tank last night (bargain purchase from Sainsburys). It's hard to say I liked it but I thought it was a good film. I've been thinking about it all day today.

Michael Fassbender was excellent - even though everything about him was all wrong! There were a few strands that I would have liked to have seen tied up/explained, but maybe that's just me.

TF gave it 5 stars:

That's a bit generous. Nearly a 4 for me.

Anyone seen it?

I thought it was dull and pointless. As you say Michael Fassbender was badly cast and as for the lead character..
How she got so much praise I don't know. Basically a 17 year old chav playing a 15 year old chav. Not acting.
The plot such as it was, was paper thin and the whole thing felt like an episode of Eastenders on holiday.
For me 2/5 is pushing it.
For the record I thought Red Road was better but not by much.

To be fair, when I said that everything about Fassbender was all wrong, I wasn't suggesting he was badly cast. It was more to do with the whole sleazy charmer thing he had going on...

I know what you mean about the lead, though. I didn't think she was that great either but the younger sister, on the other hand...

I think, all in all, it was a 3.5 (maybe a 3.75) for me.

And I totally want to see Red Road.

I have been waiting for this to appear on Sky Premiere, mainly because I grew up on the council estate (The Mardyke Estate in Rainham Essex) where it was filmed.

Am I the only one who thought the ending scenes were incredibly funny? The film is constantly going for the 'believably scummy/gritty' mood, and then the final scenes seem to be some kind of surrealist dream, and it had me chuckling quite a lot.

Yep Im with you there Silly. It just seemed like they couldn't decide how to finish it off. As soon as the little girl was kidnapped it all went wrong big time.
Red Road is the better film. You should definitley watch it Liz and give us your opinion.
