I've started this thread because MrSilly and I bloody loved it and we want to have a chat about it...

I loved Al Swearengen. He steals every scene he's in. And I particularly enjoyed his scenes with Mr Wu. I really liked Calamity Jane (more so in the first series), Trixie and Doc Cochran as well. And I absolutely loved the sweariness of the whole thing. Some people hated how much swearing was in it, but I think it added to the grittiness of it all. Damn shame they stopped at Season 3. Cocksuckers! Last edited by Lizhawkins; 03-08-2010 at 09:55 AM. |

I came to the conclusion that E.B. Farnum was the best damn thing in the entire show. Outright sleazebag, but with the best lines and involvement with almost every other primary and secondary character. His role in the third series, particularly one small speech he delivered in the penultimate episode, was magnetic, brimming with anger and madness. In fact, most of his dialogue was in the form of a soliloquy, his actualy interaction with other characters was minimal at best.
And then there's Dan Dority. Oh, Dan. You've got to love hwo they build him up as Al's heavy, there to slit throats and beat people into submission, and then characterise him by having his feelings hurt on a regular basis. He's like a lovesick puppy to Al, made all the funnier by the frame and demeanour of him. I was also fond of Jane, sweary unreliable drunk that she is. Can't beleive I went this long without watching the series. Unparalleled stuff. |
