Default Joe Dante

In light of this months forthcoming 'The Hole' I felt it was high time we gave one of the unsung heroes of cinema his due.

I met Joe Dante a couple of years back and, for me, it was like meeting Cameron or Spielberg. Yet, he's been hampered by poor box office and reviews most of his life. Which is pretty surprising because, frankly, there's not one stinker in his whole C.V.

Discuss.

Piranha
Explorers
The Burbs
Gremlins 1 and 2
Matinee
Innerspace
Looney Tunes Back in action
Small Soldiers
The Howling
The wacky last segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie.

I saw Piranha for the first time this weekend, such good B movie fun.

Oh and The Burbs! Didn't realise I was having a Dante double bill.

I loved Small Soldiers! All the war film quotes and the whole Spinal Tap versus Dirty Dozen angle... Appealing to kids and adults for very different reasons.

Pfft, The Hole was great fun, well made and really quite scary at times. Total 80's movie mind, which is no bad thing.

Anything to do with the '80s is a bad thing, fool. You should know better.

It was NOT fun. It was lazily directed, poorly acted and the narrative was all over the place. It was boring and tension was non-existent. You're either mental, or you've seen too many kid's movies.

Yeah, Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
