We've got our tickets booked for Saturday morning. It's going to be the first Potter film I've seen at the cinema.

I've seen all of them at the cinema but the last one was just so boring.

I saw the last one on DVD recently. It was a bit of a let down. My girlfriend wanted us to watch all the previous films again before we see this on Saturday. So far we watched half The Philosopher's Stone. These films have got to kind of a different place from where they started.

The books and the films peaked at 'Azkhaban' and sadly the source material wilted impotently in the face of Rowling's immunity to editing brought about by her success.

The whole series descended into sub-Hollyoaks romantic sub-plots and unresolved threads and unsatisfying conclusions.

Striking moments aside and themes, Harry just becomes more unlikeable as the books go on, and Ron gets put upon way too much.

But, yes I'll be in line with everyone else

"DUMBLEDORE'S GAY!"

Seriously Rowling, who gives a shit...

I agree. That was the last one I bothered to see at the cinema. I've watched others on DVD only.

Don't forget OTT Apocalyptically boring CGI and continued wooden acting from Radcliff and stupid expressions from Grint.

I have just seen the latest installment of Harry Potter.
Was it a disappointment? Yes, but not simply because it was a part1, but as a film in total. At times, it flirts with excellence, but at others it could make Seagal cringe.
The story only really facilitates for HP fans with prior knowledge of whats going on, for everyone else we're left guessing (horcruxes?), and is in desperate need of a 'Previously, on Harry Potter'.
As for the acting, Watson is the best. The very minor character roles (not cameos) are good to a point but have no real development and are a total waste of talent, but that stems more from the poor writing of the books rather than bad film making. However, its Radcliffe's performance that is most noticeable. He is so wooden, especially at pivotal emotional scenes, he makes Ben Affleck circa '03 look Oscar worthy.
However not all is bad. Some scenes are beautifully captured, the aminated scene is truly inspired, and the use of handheld cameras adds an emmense amount of much needed honesty to the story.
It deserves its 3 stars.
But still, Radcliffe, how does it feel to be out-acted by a CGI snake?
