I was compelled to Google this when I read it... It's worse than you described it, awful:

aye. To tell the truth, I'd forgotten myself how bad what he said was. The magazine printed a retraction and distanced itself from his supposed joke but by then it was too late.
It's not amusing when you consider how many countries things like that, and worse happen to women all the time.
