I can see why HMV are in trouble they charge way too much for a game/dvd/cd prefer to buy my games/cd/dvd off the internet shops much better deals than paying say £39.99 for Halo Reach game of HMV when you can score it for £17.99 off the internet shops with free postage!! easy choice really!!

Well there'll be no sale, it'll stay online like Zavvi right?

Cause I remember before Zavvi closed down, and all the prices, whether they pretended they were sale prices or not, we're still over the odds, and could be found online cheaper.

I think the reason HMV has dominated is because they ALWAYS had what you were looking for, no matter how obscure. And they charged for the privilage. But now online is dominating and I doubt over time they'll be able to compete.

Does anyone remember Fopp? I think they bought out Our-Price but didn't last very long. They were unbeatable for thier selection of music, and proper cheap.

I used to pop in sometimes looking for something and search amongst the titles only to come up empty handed. It was in alphabetical order but there were many gaps. And none of the stuff I've looked for there was obscure. But it may not have been recent release or hugely popular and those are the areas they cater to. Granted, my local wasn't the best or biggest branch but it rarely had what I wanted and when it did the price was a rip.

They never had in what I wanted, and if it was it was twice the price it should be.

Some of their sales were ok though, but since online shopping dominated my spending, HMV hardly gets a look in.

That being said I do buy off hmv.com when the price is, and it rarely is, cheaper than other online shops.

Fopp's still on the go, albeit in far fewer locations. Its a good one for picking up bargains here and there but its not cheap on everything.

Fopp were bought over by HMV so their future is looking uncertain at the moment. I never go into Fopp anymore because I always pick loads up then go home thinking I've got all these bargains but it's usually stuff that I wouldn't have bought otherwise and could do fine without.

Aye, there's a Fopp still going in Manchester, but the prices are the same as HMV for the most part and it appears there is a fair bit of duplicate stock in there now, but it's always worth a look for something on the cheap and off the beaten track.

But yeah, it's essentially a mini HMV in all but name now, Amazon and the second hand market is king, although a recent shop has opened in one fo my local towns, where I've managed to pick up new CDS for 6 for £10, but there stock is eclectic to say the least, but it's the only high street shop I've seen with prices comparable to online retailers.

But all the CDs seem to be warehouse surplus from the late 90s early oos.

Has anyone else noticed that HMV always seems to be having a sale on these days?

Although the downturn in the market has hit most retailers quite hard, HMV is not doing itself any favours with its pricing policy of adding up to £50 or so onto the cost of certain Blu-ray and DVD boxsets compared to other High Street rivals and Online competitors.

Perhaps it is time for the company to change its top Directors and Management.

I only go into HMV these days to look at the sale items, you can pick up some bargains but generally they are for too expensive and have got away with their ridiculous prices for far too long.
