Default Golden Globes

Will they invite Ricky Gervais to host another awards ceremony? I watched this clip and thought he was hilarious.

He is definitely quite funny in that, but not so controversial that they wouldn't have him host it again. Unless that room was full of Scientologists. Hang on a minute...

Personally I hope he NEVER gets work again...anywhere. He's a smug, unfunny, cringing little git of a man who is about as funny as herpes.

These award shows need something to liven them up, I thought it sounded funny. Bet Franco and Hathaway won't be throwing out scientology jokes at the Oscars.

That's the difference between our humour and the American humour, we are used to the piss taking type of humour, they don't get it and find it offensive.

Gervais is a bit like marmite, you either like it or you don't.

None of the jokes were particularly laugh out loud, I wish more people would riff on Scientology, because of the celebrity big hitters in that 'religion' it rarely gets a hit in such a mainstream way. But the joke wasn't funny, not because of it's subject, but because it was playground in origin.

Knowing Gervais it was probably all well orchestrated before hand (The Tim Allen/Tom Hanks response gave me that impression), although Robert Downey Jr's wounded response made my night, if anyone is more self important and smug than Gervais it's him.

I thought Michael Douglas missed a beat for a joke though, after that standing ovation he should have replied "That was really emotional, it's brought a real lump to my throat.."

Oh well.

I enjoyed most of the jokes but I thought the RDJ gag fell really flat and just made Gervais look mean-spirited...

Tut tut, Mr Chop. Talking of mean-spirited gags...

[I actually thought Michael Douglas' quote was on point: 'There's gotta be an easier way to get a standing ovation"]

He looked really poorly though, right? And a lot like his dad...

I thought he looked ill and looked just like his dad too Liz. Glad he got a standing ovation though.

As ill as he looked it was probably an extreme physical effort for him to stand up on stage even for those few seconds. He was brave to be up there.
