That is really bad taste. I'm not the sensitive type, but there are some subjects that should be exempt from being made fun of.

Oh absolutely in bad taste, but it would only have been funny if Douglas had said it, anyone else no.

I apologise for my gallows humour, I often forget not everyone is in the same profession as me. What's funny in the A+E staff room, doesn't always translate well to Joe Public.

Although comparing the pictures of Douglas from his recent venture into Disney Land/World he looked rather well I thought, likely make up induced, but still.

Was it Christopher Reeves who came out to a standing ovation at an awards ceremony in his wheelchair and thanked everyone as it had taken him a few weeks to get there?

I think in the face of such life threatening adversity, self deprecating humour is an excellent way fo dealing with it, provided the person in question is in on the joke and not the butt of it.

But you said it, and that's why it wasn't funny.

It seem s to me that Gervais' performance at the awards (however funny or unfunny it was) have overshadowd the ceremony entirely, both in the media and in this forum.

I think the only controvesy came from the fact that he was hosting to a room of Hollywood industry types, who have to guard there honest opinions every day of there working life, that didnt welcome his style of comedy and felt the need to tut and moan about it. Had the show been something like the BAFTA's than it most likely wouldnt have even been commented on.

Im very much looking forward to this weekends Comedy awards with Jonathan Ross, and it'll be interesting to imagine how this ceremoy, though different in nature, would go down with an uptight audience of money-grabbing mogels.
