Default Paul Newman

Thought it befitting to have a tribute thread to the great man. After I heard about his death It was nice to see Sky Movies do a tribute night to him last Saturday. I watched The Hudsucker Proxy, Cool Hand Luke, Torn Curtain and Slap Shot, then chucking on a dvd of Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid. Such a great actor and a massive loss to cinema.

Not only a great actor but a great man away from the screen. A true legend.

It's always sad when a screen icon passes away

I think they are having a tribute to him on Film Four, showing his films.
Starting with Road to Perdition tomorrow night.

Hud and The Hustler are my cliched choices of films by Newman. I don't think I've ever seen him put in an average performance in anything.

my favourite actor.
favourite movies of his
butch cassidy, harper, cool hand luke, the sting, the towering inferno, there are probably more.
He has made a few not very good movies eg torn curtain, which wasn't bad, just pretty average, when time ran out, i'm sure there are more.
The verdict was probably his best performance.

Default "I'm glad its you..."

A line that sends chills up my spine everytime I hear it. Road to Perdition, if you have not seen it. Do yourself a favour and see it now.

As a first post, I believe it is best to begin a discussion on something/one I am the largest fan of. In this case Paul Newman, hence my username.

If there is anyone out there who has an admiration for the wonderful talent that shall forever be Paul Newman, what was the first film you remember seeing him in? Whats your favourite film of his?
