Default Best ever straight to DVD release

Not actually 'straight-to-DVD' but in my opinion the best 'straight to VHS' (in the UK) is without any doubt The Man With Two Brains. I believe it was given a brief cinema run afterwards on the success of the video release. It still totally creases me up when I watch it now, 25 years or so later

Disagree. Cruel Intentions. classic uber bitch role. About as far away from buffy as you can get.

Cruel Intentions is alright and she's alright in it but when I watch it I just get the feeling she's playing evil sexy Buffy. I've got nothing against her and I watched Buffy but I have trouble separating her from that role. She has proved how good an actress she can be in several episodes of Buffy though.

There have been a few films that I've seen on DVD that should've gone to theatres(I thought)...The most recent American Pie DVD-quel had a lot of goofy charm, and the 3rd film in the Mimic franchise was incredibly atmospheric. And recently, I saw a DVD called Leaves of Grass that was pretty terrific. Doesn't happen too often, though...for every hidden treasure like Leaves of Grass, there are 4,000 Hellraiser: Deader's to sit through.

Default Straight to DVD.

SOLDIER
Produced as a sem-sequal to Blade Runner, same writer and it takes place in same universe, but none of the same characters or locations. Set in space, it follows the titled soldier when he is replaced by an upgraded model and is dumped on a garbage planet. Epic in scope but a small focused story about what it means to be human. The public were only thirsty for epic blow it all up, like Independence Day, during the nineties and this did not connect with audiences. However, with the success of recent films, like Moon and District 9, I think this epic could find an audience at last.

The Man with Two Brains is genius!! That has shocked me. It's my favourite Steve Martin movie.

I was really surprised that The Prophecy went straight to video in the mid-90s. It had a really good cast - Christopher Waltz, Virginia Madsen, Amanda Plummer & Eric Stoltz and a big plot for a relatively low budget movie.

And it gave me my first Viggo Mortensen experience playing the devil. If memory serves me well, it went onto spawn a sequel (and also a third movie too maybe?)

I quite like Soldier. It's the film with the largest production budget to get a direct to video release in the UK ( I think). Early rumours for the film were that it was going to be a film translation of the Rogue Trooper comics and there was a nine month gap in filming that Kurt Russell used to bulk up for the fight scenes and Paul W. S. Anderson used to direct Event Horizon- One of my favourite films.

Default the Boondock Saints

Excellent movie that touches on the subject of the growing apathy towards crime in our society and asks if it's really all that bad for anyone to take justice into there own hands... Stars Sean Patrick Flanery, Norman Reedus and Willem Defoe. It only ran in five theaters for the duration of one week. I do consider this more of a straight to dvd release as the theaters didn't really give it a chance.

Be careful. If you are interested in checking this out, there are spoilers.
