Shame about the pretty weak reviews it has been receiving. I thought it sounded cool at first but I must admit the trailer I saw before First Class made a less than vintage impression on me to say the least. Hopefully it will still be good fun though, we shall see.

I really don't know how to react to superhero film reviews anymore. And this isn't a typical 'Hulk is the best of them all' post, even though that was a temptation. The scores for Thor evened out nicely, and I think a general consensus was that it was enjoyable, if nothing special. But then X-Men: First Class has been cleaning house when I honestly consider many parts of it to be The Last Stand bad (Mutant and Proud ). Yes, the scores of something like Superman Returns also applies, it's been happening for years. Seems the only time the critical scores mostly get it right is when the film is an unmitigated catastrophe of Jonah Hex levels, because there's not a person alive that can watch such shit and call it genuinely good, apart from Armond White.

I like the look of Green Lantern.

I saw this last night, and much as I didnt want to believe the early negative reactions, I have to concur with pretty much everything they've said.

Five years ago this may have survived on novelty and intrigue alone, but now, in a post Dark Knight semi-serious world, it’s simply not good enough, and although nowhere near as bad as the Fantastic Four films, Hal Reynolds CGI suit will be left gathering dust alongside Jonah Hex’s hat and Halle Berry’s Catwoman whip on the DC comics’ scrapheap.

It's an incoherent mess that occasionally threatens to turn into something good, before some terrible editing yanks you back to a CGI splurge of a mess. Reynolds tries hard but Green Lantern will have to be the fall guy of this summer.

I saw this today with a determination to like it and I've been aware there are negative reviews around, but I've avoided all reviews and went in cold.

I left vaguely entertained, mildly amused and a little underwhelmed, being unfamiliar with the Universe I was glad for the exposition heavy intro, but as an origin film it felt very erratically paced. The initial meeting between Reynolds and the alien who gives him his power felt rushed and I would have like more interaction between the two before his death.

Reynolds cracking wise is always fun, but after a spirited opening twenty minutes, he becomes a near straight man as the film progresses, which is no fun for anyone.

I think the CG was decent, although the need to have a totally CG costume seemed a bit pointless, the villain was played well and Mark Strong and Blake Lovely() were excellent in support.

I would have liked to have seen more of the off world stuff and more of the Lantern Corps aside from them all just pointing rings at the sky, some wacky alien designs amongst that lot.

It was kind of a bizarre mix of 'Top Gun', 'Superman' 'The Mask' and The Last Starfighter' which in fleeting moments excelled, but I'll admit to being a bit bored by the end and a little indifferent to the outcome.

Be interesting to see if there's an extended cut available in the future, some of the editing was dire. The ring's initial selection of Reynolds and the Green Lantern Squadron's assault all felt chopped abruptly.

2.5/5

Even though I'm not a huge fan of Ryan Reynolds (or Ry-Rey as you guys like to call him - seriously??), it looks 90% CGI and it's had poor reviews...my inner comic-book-film fangirl is still wanting to see it. DVD rental, maybe, when it gets there?

This film is like Kermit the Frog being run over: an ugly, green mess.

Another awful mess.Reynolds is miscast and the cgi is very ropey.
And the boring inane waffle passing for dialogue went on for ever!!
