The Dark Knight is a really good movie, but it's just too depressing for me. There's a certain point(the goddamn warehouse) where I just check out. That whole part makes me think Chris Nolan has been hanging out with Joss Whedon. I am a Joss Whedon fan, by the way, but he just has a way of pissing me off sometimes, and Nolan did exactly that in Dark Knight.

I find Russel Crowe to be a massive turn off. It's a shame, as having seen his films in the past, I know he's a good actor, but the more interviews with him I read/hear, the more I come to the conclusion that he is in fact just a massive bell-end, to the point where I now find it difficult to watch his films without just wanting to punch him in the face.

Any Micheal Bay picture. Absolute dogsheet. The Poor man's Tony Scott.

Or Roland Emmerich. Truly dreadful.

Also Any film with Nic Cage in. Or Adam Sandler. Or Jack Black, Jim Carrey, Rob Schnieder,Tom Cruise.

It's sickening to think the likes of the above command tens of millions of dollars per picture.

You have to ask.... Why?

On a patriotic note - Hugh Grant, Daniel Radcliffe, Colin Firth. Boring, dull-as-dishwater, middle of the road and banal. Makes one embarrased to be British. Especially Grant. Feel violent whenever he appears on screen.

I have to say, usually I steer clear of sappy, self indulgent movies like Captain Correlli's Mandolin, The Count of Monte Cristo, and The Postman.

I don't know what it is about these movies that makes me really not want to watch them... It's not the actors (I watched Nic Cage in Ghost Rider for crying out loud), it's not the directors (I actually enjoyed Dances With Wolves), and it's not really the subject matter (I love a good swash-buckle, Cutthroat Island not-withstanding).

Perhaps it's a combination of all of the above? Maybe it's the trailers??? I love a bit of sci-fi, but I cannot bring myself to watch Outland again - boring as slightly damp paint.

Completely agree with the Shyamalan assessment (although I think I am officially the only person that actually liked Lady in the Water - I can see past His Godly Highness Shyamalan playing himself) in that he is getting worse with each film. However, so is Daniel Radcliffe. Each installment of the Potter franchise (except for Goblet of Fire - Thank God for Mike Newell) brings a more wooden performance from his Harry-ness. I only watch the movies now for the interplay between Grint and Watson, and the fabulous Alan Rikman, of course.

Agree with Hostel being s**t - watched #1, won't watch it again. I like the Saw franchise (sorry peeps), but stop well short of both The Human Centipede films. I'd rather suffer a sulfuric acid enema than have to sit through those. And chuck away A Serbian Film too.

And you can keep ANY AND ALL of your so-called spoof comedies after Scary Movie. Nothing orginal about them - they're not even true spoofs (in which actors play comedy seriously, and only ocasionally break the fourth wall) and the jokes they include nowadays are just insults and crass pop-culture references. Whatever happened to the good ol' days of Airplane, Top Secret, Hot Shots, Blazing Saddles?

And as for George Lucas... Don't get me started.

I thought the whole point of this thread was movies you can't watch in spite of them not being shit.

Seriously? Watch A SIngle Man and say that again. He may of phoned in Mr Darcey several times, but in recent years he has put in several fine performances. Certainly doenst make me embarrased to be British.

As for films I cant watch. Anything that borders on pretentious, i.e. Lars Van Trier, I'm open to most stuff.

Totally agree, dude. Colin Firth has become one of our best actors in recent times. It's easy to hate him because he was in a crowd pleasing film which scooped the Oscars but he should be judged on his own body of work, not the fact that the spotlight has finally fallen on him.

I'm also with you on the can't stand pretentious films. I used to be a fan of Von Trier years ago when he still managed to deliver a good story amongst all the angst and chest beating but lately he's disappeared into boring up his own arse territory. I can't tolerate a boring film. I was forwarding through Antichrist looking for the violent parts because the rest was so static and uninvolving, although very arty.

Firth is fecking dull in everything he does. Same goes for that charisma vacuum Clive Owen.
From what I've seen of The Kings Speech, it's yet another dull Oscar movie... oh, look, there's the otherwise placid character exploding in uncharacteristic anger... oh, look, his tutor feels he's finally gotten through to the individual underneath the public figure and can now find the man he wants to be and gently agrees with him in admiration.

I will see it soon, once I can get past my irrational narcolepsy for anything with Firth in it.

As for films, Happy Go Lucky makes me want to fuckin' puke.
Shit like that really pisses me off.

The King's Speech is not a terribly exciting movie, in my opinion. It's a little dry, fluffy and contrived with the US market in mind. I only saw it because my missus wanted to see it and she only bothered because she likes Colin Firth.
Firth is alright when he has a decent role. What some people perceive as dull is a very subtle acting style. He's nowhere near as bad as Hugh Grant or Clive Owen.
