I think the TF review was harsh. The flashback way of presenting her career is far more intriguing than a standard biopic and using her as an unreliable narrator draws into question whether the film's (ultimately positive) view of her is actually true or is her seeing herself through rose-tinted spectacles.

My main criticism of the film is twofold.

1) Every time it came even close to actually having something to say politically, it veers away and does something else. I really wanted it to be incisive, at least to a degree, but it takes the safe route.

2) Olivia Colman's prosthetic nose was fucking ridiculous.

Meryl Streep surely has to win an Oscar for this performance, right from the start I'd forgotten that it was Streep playing the role as she was so convincing. I found the film really moving watching a very intelligent, bold and confident women slide downhill through dementia. My wife cried a few times during this film.
The flashbacks brought back memories of my growing up in the late 70's and 80's. It also reminded me of how much her gutless party members turned on her and stabbed her in the back. Whether you love her or hate her she had a major impact on the world and made it possible for women to further their political careers.

Best part for me was when the American tries to steer her away from sending our fleet in to take back the Falklands, her tells he it's just a small Island thousands of miles away, she say's so was Hawaii...............brilliant.

One film I will not watch is A Serbian Film, from what I have heard it will just disgust me.

That's exactly how I feel about this film, especially if it takes the "tough but necessary" bitch-hero sympathy view.

Fraid not Jonesy, she was crying watching a women suffering from dementia.

Hardly - she got where she was by acting like a man, and there was only one other female in the cabinet during her time as PM. The labour landslide in 1997 was the real advancement for females in Westminster politics.

I thought the performance was very good and certainly award worthy. I also found it quite sad but soon snapped out of it once I remembered how much of a non-fan I am of Thatcher.

Watched that movie one day after the riots in Greece and especially in Athens, and it felt like i was watching the greek news. The same things that happened in England then, happens in Greece now. I can't say that i liked the movie, but i can say that Meryl Streep was excellent! The film deals little withe the politics and some scenes with her collaborators is pure failure!Especially that one in which her collaborators were trying to convince her that the tough economic policy was ineffective in times of recession, while the seamstress was dreesing her with a sparkling toilet: Symbolism of nursery level. The case of unions and strikes is limited to scattered throughout the movie scenes from "episodes", the war in the Falklands was connected "required" with the drama handwritten letters of condolence to the families of those killed, disagreements within the cabinet is limited to one classic arguments as to the tax. An ok movie with a great protagonist.
