Young Adult

Not one for repeat viewings, but I liked it. Never been much of a Charlize Theron fan but she is great in this. Audience seemed to be expecting more comedy than drama I think, laughing way too much at the 'funny' bits.

The Goonies (1985)

Part of my landscape when I was growing up, I love this film. It takes me to a happy place of careless youth, Saturday mornings out on my bike and fun. Sure, some of the special effects are awful, but that doesn't bother me. The soundtrack is great, the script is tight, and you care about the characters.

Default Albert Nobbs

Albert Nobbs is an eccentric butler in a hotel in Dublin somewhere in the 19th century. Meanwhile, Albert Nobbs is a woman that in the last 25 years is getting dressed as a man and lives with the fear of revealing her true identity.
Albert Nobbs, is a solitary creature, docile, almost neutral. Observes but does not respond, distancing himself from his environment but also from reality. Similarly, the woman behind the mask seems to have lost all traces of femininity.
We watch Glenn Close to interpret with excess courage perhaps one of the most demanding roles of her career. And she does it in a great way. balancing between comedy and drama. Her moves reminded me sometimes of Charlie Chaplin... But the efford for the easy emotion to dominate over a real tragedy and the attachment to timid academicism, brings the film to a TV effort measures although the respect and dignity to the hero.

Default Muppets Treasure Island

Going to see The Muppets tomorrow so decided to watch Muppets Treasure Island as I had only seen bits of it before now.

Although not in the same bracket as the early movies or the excellent Muppets Christmas Carol, I really enjoyed this film with a great performance by Tim Curry as Long John Silver. Actually sympathized with Curry's Silver by the end of it, but this may have to do with not particularly liking the young Kevin Bishop as Jim Hawkins.

The songs may not be as catchy but the jokes are great at times, with the best lines coming from Gonzo and Rizzo.

A solid 6.5/10

Kill List

Funny, tense, and just a wee bit scary but leaves you with more questions than answers.

Still, one of the more memorable films of last year, if not quite the masterpiece some would have you believe.
