No Melancholia thread? I'm not surprised. Pile of pretentious pants.

Yes, we knew it was likely to be... but Mrs cat wanted to see Alex Skarsgard so it was one of our weekend hires. Ended up having to fast forward through it and didn't watch most of it. Left me with two resolutions:

1. Never watch a Von Trier film again. With this boring rot on top of Anti-Christ I've had my fill
2. Never watch a movie that begins with a wedding. Or is about a wedding.

InBetweeners movie - alright but much like an extended episode.
Drive - great.

I got 45 minutes in and had to stop watching Melancholia. I don't recommend it to anyone.

After watching a bit of Antichrist, I will never watch another Lars (whatever his name is) film again.

Jeff I'm stunned you lasted 45 mins. The max I give a film to impress me these days is 30 - 40 mins. If in that time it hasn't entertained me, it's GTFO. I don't have time, I'm old.

Jay the pity of it is that the guy has done some good stuff in the past. He did Europa (1991), a good film, also Breaking the Waves - miserable but watchable, got award noms galore and deserved most of them.
He did The Kingdom aka Riget, for Danish TV which became a festival hit all over the world for its awesome way of combining scariness with black humour. Think: X-Files meets ER. And there's been other films like Dogville, Dancer in the Dark and even The Idiots, all to selective taste but still not emitting from the inside of Lar's arse.

But that changed, so I shall be avoiding from now on. Let the artsy fartsy film students whose young brains are prime sponges for this rubbish soak it up. I'll be off watching easier less wanky fare.

My last post originally included a bit of a rant about artsy fartsy studenty type sponge people but i had to edit because it was a full on proper rant and this is not a film i really want to work myself up about. It's a waste of time. Unless you want to see Kirsten Dunst's knockers.

Maybe there's something wrong with me, but i really liked Melancholia. A really allegorical film. And yes you had to try really hard to watch it, at least the first 30-40 minutes, just like any other Von Trier movie. I almost left the cinema when i first watched The Idiots... but i stayed and in the end it was a really good movie... And i liked Antichrist too. I better go to the doctor!!!!!

lol. Once I'd have had the patience for a film like that, after all I sat through Paris, Texas once and all manners of arty stuff in my yoof. These days I'm too grouchy and impatient. I demand to be entertained, not messed about.

Hahaha! I know exactly what you mean! These days i prefer watching "easy" movies too! Makes me forget stuff and just laugh! Try "beerfest". Perfect for that... Really crappy but entertaining.
